Ok this is pretty cool, anyone have these, seen these, heard of these. What happens to the beam when you're parked on a hill? Well I'm sure we all love gadgets so check it out.

The original Tucker car had a center headlight that did that very thing. Kind funny that it took 60 years for that idea to come full circle.

The new RX 330 comes with the same function headlights. It's a pretty cool idea but a bit way too electrical to bring off road. Good on Luxury Vehicles like lexus tho.

it did come as standard on a citroen in the 60s it was the gs i think and i think it was somehow wired up to the steering i cant see the piont of having it gps guided that sounds like way too much trouble.

That seems like on hell of an idea to me. Someone had their thinking cap on. This is a great use of the GPS technology.

I respectfully disagree. I think it's just something else to go wrong. If the corners or bends need to be illuminated, why not slightly simplify and add infrared or laser reflection (there's a name for it but I can't remember it). Mercedes and BMW are using something similar in their Active Cruise Control.

Here's an idea-
Why couldn't the GPS be used in conjunction with Active Cruise to create a nearly autonomous vehicle? The Active Cruise would keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front while the GPS keeps the vehicle on the road and tracking in the right direction. Think of it as autopilot. Man that would be sweet! Especially on long trips.

growing up on forest roads with sharp corners I always thought that a light that cornes with you would be a good idea. I always thought hooking it to the stearing system somehow would be better so it would be mechanical instead of motion sensing. Think of what a whole roof rack full of these would be like.

For $50 I can buy a good set of quality fog lights, place them wide on my rig and aim the slightly wider than normal and accomplish the same thing. To me it sounds like a big gimock (sp?). And at $500, I'm not going to chance it.

I don't know what kind of winding back country roads you all drive on, but around here, a "winding" road means corners you can't see around because of the terrain. I don't care what kind of fancy shmancy lights you have - they won't make a difference when there is a forrest between you and the next section of road.

After working on it, the center turning headlight on the Tucker is actually a pretty simple operation using rods and cables attached to the steering linkage.

My father was tinkering with a version of it for fog lights on his truck before I left home. I am sure someone could fab something up for much less then those cost.

damn, for that price, i could get like atleast 10 pairs of hella 500s and point them all around my truck! lol

nawh, but i really noticed how hard it is to go around corners at night while wheeling. i was on a trail once at night, and i couldnt see whats on the ground when i was cornering. so i was just going to get some utility off road lights ($10 each) and put them under the truck, like rock lights, and point them out and to the corners.

I don't think this set of lights is GPS controlled...
It's controlled by some motion sensing device.

In other words, it's got a little weight that swings the light from side to side with centrifugal force. Which means on rough road these things will probably be all over the place.

Lets say they are connected to the steering system. What happens when your on a road with ruts in it, slipping and sliding all over??? Then your lights are never going to be on the road.
