I know the 4Runner is not a race car...

But I got into a race tonight against a Firebird and could have whipped up on him if I had just a couple more horses. It was neck-and-neck until someone was in my lane ahead. Come-on cold air intake and Magnaflo.

Boy I love going through a midlife crisis...

Its all about driving skill in traffic. That firebird would be a ramp to play on offroad!!

I see that you are in FT worth, check out the home page listed on my profile if you want to meet some local DFW wheelers. We are heading out to Mineral wells this weekend, and BMRA July 29-31.

Oh 4Runners can race with the proper power modifications...SC, Fuel Delivery mods etc.

I actually beat a tiny Mazda manual trans. with my stock 3.4L v6 from the light. Guy didn't know how to shift, everyone he did his tires went smoking for a split second. Heh, got lucky.

Anyways, don't say 4Runners can't race, I have seen write-ups where people use modded ECU's and go up to 130+ mph. Also, from the light, my runner can keep up with a lot of v6 heavy sports cars until like 2nd gear ...oh well.

What year was this Firebird cause through the later '70s Firebirds had less ponies than a 3rd gen Runner. (a '80 Vette had 180hp standard with a 220hp upgrade available)

It was a V6, Could tell by the exhaust. It was a mid-90's Firebird. I could have beaten him with a little more highway. But we were up to 90+.

More horses? Simplest, most cost effective means for a gen3 is a TRD super charger. Bolt one on and be thrilled with the difference!

you could get the v8 in the RS for awhile...alot of people liked the RS with v8 cause they didnt like the body kits and stuff that came with the trans....

you guys remember the 'Firehawk'...i was never a big firebird/camaro fan but I thought the Firehawks were pretty cool...

...+$1000 in fuel/timing mods to keep the motor from grenading.

it wasnt a 70 1/2 formula because there's no way you could beat that in any runner.

What the Firebird run in the 1/4? There's a couple of SC'd Runners running high 12s with a little help from the funny fog but a 12 second 1/4 is a 12 second 1/4. If that Bird is stock then I'm guessing high 13s? Anything can be made fast for the $$$$.

i've gone past the 110, then the ignition started cutting off the engine. it said 112 on the gps, but it is one of those in dash gps systems so I don't think it was that accurate.
