I have been so careful but finally....

I smashed into a kid on a 6 wheeler the other day. I was on a forestry road, going downhill and around a sharp right hand curve, with 3 inches of snow on the ground and there he was. In may lane and by the time he tried to manuver to his side, I had T-boned him.

I messed up the hood and grill. What should I do? I will not turn it in to insurance, but fix it myself. How much are hoods and grills for a 97 tacoma?

You nimrod......

Sorry, had to say it. I'd say look on car-parts.com and just get a used hood/grill. It'd be an easy fix if that's all's messed up.

Sorry to hear about it. Unexpected expenses HURT. I assume this doesn't include paint. On the left side above hood is the grille section with a bunch of different types. I don't know what particulars you have but atleast its a start. Also call around to some yards, might get lucky.

Kid is fine, he was lucky. I could have ruined his life if I would have caught his leg but he managed to pull his leg out of the way just in time. Ebay has hoods for about 275 shipped. Unpainted.

If he was on your side of the road the accident's his fault, go after him or the parents for the money.

In this part of the world the same laws apply to forestry roads as any other public roads.

pre-view as much of the route as you can. if needed do it in sections and walk it ahead each time escpecially if there are real icy/twisty sections...

go with a second vehicle if posible, take extra food, water and fuel [vehicle and campstove if using] remember the wx can change very quickly and you may be stuck out there much longer than planned. Leave a trip plan (and stick to it) with someone responsible before you go so if you don't come back on time they can send someone to "rescue" you. Watch for avalanche danger and keep a close eye on the weather. If you do get stuck take it slow and easy, don't build up a sweat because as soon as you stop it can freeze and that will end all your troubles...
Stay safe aviator
ps I know this was a hyjack lol but the ? was asked
good to hear the kid was ok which is the important thing...
