I can no long longer peel out with "Free FMU" Mod
I have done the free fmu mod to my 2000 4runner, but it seems as though there is a delay when I punch the gas after a stoplight. The acceleration is better but only at higher speeds. Is this normal? Also, some mechanics are telling me to just plug up the fuel regulator up completely because that will dump more fuel. Has anyone done this?
Now that my warranty is expired I'm thinking about doing some fuel mods. I'm thinking about putting 305cc injectors, a fuel pump, and a s-AFC. How much additional horsepower will that give me and more importantly how much do you think installation will be? I'm not looking for the fastest truck, but my last car went 0-60 in 4.6 seconds so I need something a little bit faster
thanks

I have an automatic too...did not really notice on your original thread that you have a 2000 Anyway, I had the same symptoms on my 4runner the first time I did the Free FMU Mod. But it seems to have gotten better after a couple of hundred miles (maybe the ECU adjusting? ).
Check out my website under "Performance Mods" and look at the "baseline" dyno. Based on the results I have gotten, I am "full steam ahead" on the 305cc injectors, 190LPH Fuel Pump and SAFC

thanks for the reply Duke. By the way, did you dyno your truck after the fuel mods yet? I'm dying to know..
How much did installation cost you, or did you do everything yourself?

Jackson,
It has to do with SC's. I think it involves hooking up the boost port to the fuel pressure regulator, but don't quote me. I think Gadget is the one who figured this "Free" mod out.

Haha,
So all this time spent reading posts on the forum, instead of working on assignment for class, is really starting to pay off! I guess paying off is what you could call it...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prior to the "free fmu", the FPR was seeing atmospheric pressure (stock) and delivering 40+ psi fuel pressure. Now at idle, such as a stop light, there is vacuum applied to the FPR diaphragm and the fuel pressure is now in the neighborhood of 35-36 psi. As you open the throttle the vacuum decreases and the fuel pressure increases. At "0" on the vac/boost gauge you are at ~ stock psi and stock fuel delivery and as you go into boost the fuel pressure increases....the free FMU......
I usually only see the effects of this as I "aggressively" merge into traffic behind someone and have to momentarily let off the throttle and hit it again. Then I get about a second of ping when the fuel pressure drops and then I go into boost. But then again I am "way past" my 'Burn rubber' age.

This would be the same as leaving it connected to the "intake silencer" and would still deliver the "stock" fuel pressure. No Boost/psi fuel pressure increase.
