HVAC blower not working???

Hey guys I hope you can help me with this. You have never let me down in the past. When I left from work yesterday my blower controls do not work. All speeds were fine yesterday on the way to work, but all of a sudden none of the speeds work now. I've had resistors go bad before and then usually one has at least one or two speeds. So what gives????
I've checked some fuses under the hood and the drivers side kick panel. They were all ok. I still need to check the ones behind the glove box, according to Chilton's there are some Relays and curcuit breakers behind there.
To me it sounds like a fuse. I wouldn't think that the entire blower motor would crap out all of a sudden, without any signs.
Anyone else have any experiences with anything like this?

Thanks,
Chris

OK I checked all the fuses and they checked out ok. So I guess that it has to be a relay, the blower motor, blower resistor, or the switch in the dash has gone bad. Anyone have any thoughts? I have never had any previous problems with this.

Please help
Chris

I'll put my money on the switch, it's not a very good design and they tend to heat up due to the connection point not being very secure. I've replaced dozens of them between my own and several friends rigs. They are a bit of a chore to remove and replace though.

If that doesn't work, pull out the blower and check the brushes.

Mine did the same thing and the relay behind the glove box had rust in it. Changed it out fro $25 and it worked. I wish i knew it was bad before I tore the dash out to check the switch.

hey chris!

im having similar problems with my 93, the low and high speed still work but the middle two settings dont do anything. is yours compeletly not working? after reading corvettelvrs post, im thinking the relay might be the way for me to go. let me know what you come up with and ill post my results.

Thanks for reply's guys. Do you think that the switch could have crapped out without any warning?? Maybe its the relay behind the glove box.

Leebee,
I think that your problem is the blower resistor. A couple speeds working is usually the symptoms for the resistor going south.

Is there anyway to test the switch and the relay for correct operation?
P.S. Its getting cold in Virginia.

Thanks,
Chris

Leebee,
Your problem is the resistors.
CMD93,
For me I took the relay out and looked at it and I saw rust in the corner then I took the plastic cover off and it was all rusted up inside. Try taking the cover off the relay and if it looks normal then plug it back in and see if you can hear it click when you flip the switch on.

Hey guys it ended up being the blower motor. I just got back from the junkyard and they luckly had a 2nd gen 4runner. I got some relays, the switch, and the motor. I thought that the motor would be the last thing that went bad. I plugged the new motor up before I did anything else and it worked perfectly. Go figure.

Thanks for the help,
Chris

is that resistor behind/below the radio location? i pulled one from that location on the 89 (suffers the same problem), is there any way of testing them? if not, ill just order one up from the stealer, the junk yards around here dont have many toys.
