How rare is the 4runner 5 speed with E-locker?
I've been searching eBay, the classifieds, Autotrader, and dealerships but can't seem to find any. Just how rare are they? I'm almost ready to give up.

When I bought my truck, Autoland here in NJ hand about 15-20 3rd gens total, it was in '03 when the 4th gens first came out, so everyone wanted the new one I guess. There was one 5 speed e-locked 4x4 on the lot there, but it was a 4 banger. I opted for the newest one, the '01 sport, cause at the time I just wanted a raised hood with under 50k miles. Big mistake. I have seen a few for sale but for some reason it is almost always with a 4 cylinder. A little tougher to find than the auto, but still not bad, I have never seen one with a v6 though,

pretty rare, at least when i looked (especially in TX). i was fortunate enough to find a 5spd, so i jumped at it. i would say find a 3.4L 4x4 5spd and worry about the locker later, thats what i ended up doing.

Here's the breakdown: when Toyota N.A. stopped importing manuals at the end of the 2000 model year, they made up only 10% of total 4Runner sales in the U.S., and 50% of those were in Colorado. Figure in how many actually came with the locker and then do the math. 2.7 or 3.4, they were still pretty rare.

I didnt even waste the time trying to find a e-locked 5-spd, they are almost non-existant. Notice I said ALMOST, I know there are ones out there, they are just very rare. Since I have the knowledge and tools to swap one in, I didnt waste the time. I found the rig I wanted, regardless of locker, and ran with it.

Yeah, finding a 96 SR5 4x stick from CA was good for me, worrying about the rest later.....knowing it didn't spend the first 9 years of it's life in the rust belt-and it was the cheapest one around here without beaucoup miles....priceless.
