Question How much will 33's affect my power?

I have another question... probably an easily answered one...
I want to get 33x12.5's on my '91 4Runner... after I get a lift (3" or 4"?) of course... how much will my power go down? And what part of the powerband does it affect? Will I gain anything with the bigger tires?

I have the 3VZE 6cyl... do you think the power would be greatly affected on this engine?

Do you have an automatic or a 5 speed. You could get away with it on a 5 speed, but I'd imagine an automatic would be pretty awful.

Yeah, going up a hill with it will suck. I had 4.10s with 31s, and that was bad enough on hills. I can just imagine what it would have been like with an auto

I've run 33's for years on my 95 4Runner with 3.0 and 5 speed. I have stock gears and it doesn't bother me. I did put in the heavier Centerforce flywheel which helped a lot - especially off the line and with maintaining speed over hills. I do not recommend the heavy flywheel on the 4 banger though.

Come on, quit picking on the poor 3.Slooow it's not its fault...well maybe. I really don't think it dramatically affects the power. I have no problems up hill or pulling a trailer, and I have the automatic and 33's. sure it can't compair to a chev 454, but im not trying for an ET in the low 12's on the quarter mile either.

Oh, it does dramatically affect your power, you're just used to it. Put some 235s back on there just for grins and go for a drive....

But I agree about picking on the 3.slow - I love mine. Sure I'd love about 100 more ponies, but the 3.0 does the job without complaining. I like it waaaay better then the 22RE I drove for 15 years.

Yah Flamedx4, yer probably right it's been 6 years since the smaller tires but not the 235's. Mine came from the factory with 31x10.5x15 and the 4.56 gearing with the V6 automatic package. I might still throw them on just for grins (they look small compaired to the 33's

Well, I was a little concerned about power loss going from 31's to 32's
so I tested the "get up and go" response of my rig. I have an Auto so I
don't have the advantage of a clutch. About half throttle is still all
it takes to smoke my new BFG KO's.

The difference is so slight. Mine runs fine when the A/T light doesn't come on. go for it...

Dublin, oh yeah, the 4:56s help a bunch! You're only one tire size over (mathematically less than that really.) 4:10s to 33s is Huge!
