How much for new engine 3.4?
Well I think my engine bit the big one last night. I was sitting at a stop light and pow (followed by all the oil in my engine leaking all over the road) took off my skid and sure enough I have a whole the size of 2 quarters in my oil pan. I don't know if it damaged the block or not being that the whole is in the oil pan but I'm sure it's not good. I figure worst case is I have to get a new motor from toyota so how much do you figure that will run $$$ ?

Sorry for your problem.
I have seen them for anywhere from $1500 for a used engine to $15,000 for a race built engine.
But for a desent one i would expect somewhere around $2500 - $5000

did the motor die or keep running right after the pow? take off the oil pan its 14 or so small 10mm bolts. check for metal shards, if it was a piece of crank or a bearing you would know pretty quick. if you take it off and find nothing like that still i would do a check by turning the motor over a few rotations via turning the crank bolt. take a flashlight and inspect. could be you just need a new oil pan saving tons of $$$$$$$

I think I saw one at www.trdparts4u.com for $3500 new. Could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure I saw it there.

$2932.12 is dealer list on a 3.4L longblock
straight labor time is 20.9 which would come out between 12 and 16 hundred dollars depending on rates. i would be looking for a salvage engine if it were mine.

The longblock will run you ALOT more than that.
The best option by far at this point is a lower mileage used motor......JDM import if you can find one. The other thing you can do is to have a good machine shop rebuild the short block and then get a rebuilt set of heads from these guys http://www.cylinder-heads.com/ (they are $300 per side and they're a very professional outfit). The rest of the stuff you can either go to the dealer like Northridge or Toyota of Dallas or I've also had very good luck from these guys http://partsdinosaur.com/ (ask for Bruce, VERY helpful guy and they sell ITM parts which are what alot of the professional engine builders use) for parts on the 5VZ-FE motor. If you decide to rebuild your own cylinder heads, make absoultely sure you have them resurfaced (that step is CRITICAL to getting a good HG seal).
You can see my ordeal rebuilding mine over here:

Found a used engine in good shape only 70,000 miles will arive tomorrow I will be replacing water pump, timing belt, rear main seal, main drive belt, and a few other things. Got a killer deal on everything including labor total is going to be $3100 after it's all said and done. Might have it back as early as tomorrow or Saturday.
