How much is this 1979 truck worth?
I found a 1979 toyota truck, and the guy wants $1500. Is this way too much? I know that's not a lot of information, but according to his sister, he wants $1500, and he's had offers for $500-750, and he wouldn't take it. It doesn't appear to be in great shape, but she he has put in a lot of money into it. Any comments?

what's the specs? milage? anything special about it?
i would've put down 1400 for one i found last year, but got extremely lucky(for this area anyhow) and found mine for 800, the guy told me to give him 650 because he thought he couldn't fix the front brakes from pulling and he felt guilty. got an extra set of tires, a canopy and a parts engine with it too. but that's probably a rare find

ah, if the body is in terrible shape you're not missing out on much. the main thing going for the 1st gen trucks is their unique look
however there are some perks in the '79 and '80 pickups, like the top shifting t-case(helpful if you want to go to duals), 4.38 axle gears and the absolutely dauntless 20R motor

If it's trashed outside... chances are it's trashed inside. Do you have any pics of this thing??? I traded a baja bug for my 80 and put some work in to it... turned out ok I guess, but it took alot of work. Post up some pics and specs, we'll tell you what it's worth.

same here for the most part. it's worse with '85 or older rigs, just about anyone who finds themself in posession of a straight axle truck thinks it's worth it's weight in gold here

I better go to Wa. when I sell my rig!!! Here in my small town I know of at least a dozen 85 and down rigs..... thats the southwest for you. Kyle, I think yours is the first 1st gen truck thats in the shape it is up there. I have a small cabin up on Lake Osoyoos and I haven't seen but a couple 79-83 trucks up there.

I frind of mine is looking for one. He would pay $2000 for a good one. Just a 4x2 that ran would cost you $800 to $1500. Here in Ga people buy cheap trucks and go tree mowing.

she's in OK shape(well, if you look at her from the front anyhow), it's go the typical cancer on the seam that runs about 6" above the wheel well on both sides and in a couple other spots(corner of the bed, doors front fenders etc)
pretty much a wreck mechanically right now though! i'm pretty sure i don't have any front axle seals left, the diff fill plug is siezed and stripped(nothing a little welding and a bfh can't fix), rear axle has a bent leaking shaft that needs to be replaced and the engine could use a rebuild. still ticking though!

Chris, I don't know what it is but trucks around these parts go for a lot of money as you're finding out. Most are in poor condition. On the way to the SE4RJ I saw this truck.
I was afraid someone from Yotatech on the way to Murphy would see this and buy it out from under me. I left a message on the guys answering machine and he called me back about 2 hrs later and said it was $2500. Neadless to say the thing sat there for a long time and probably never sold. The seats and door panels were completely torn up, buttons missing, rusty frame, and a "custom" bumper made of HEAVY c channel. And something like 240,000 miles
I've recently found an 83 sitting in a field near my house. Trying to contact the owner now. The radiator and carb cover are inside the cab which isn't good. Maybe its real cheap.
You should have looked at that old Toyota truck near the campground in Murphy. It was in great condition.

I have an 87 2x4.. Got it in pretty good shape except some redneck engineering on it.. (PCV valve superglued back together after someone broke it, extension cord used to wire up the fog lights... things like that) Got the truck for 2k only body problem is a dent in the tailgate. Had to put in
new motor mounts. Have had it over a year now and have put it through it's paces. 132k miles on it now and runs good.

it always amazes me to see how much more toys sell for than other imported trucks of the same age. typically here a '79-83 toy 4x4 will go for around 1500-2500, whereas a nissan will sell for around 600-900.
then again, i'd probably rather drive the toyota
