How long to remove 3.0 V6 engine in 4runr
The 94 SR5 V6 MT that I am acquiring has not had a clutch in 166k
So.... based on a quick drive, it prolly needs to happen soon.
The owner has been quoted $800 so I just offered to take $800 of the price.
Seems like a deal to me.
Based on that and fact that I want to go ahead and install headers, I am thinking of just pulling the engine and doing it all at once.
I have access to a hydraulic engine lift and even a full shop with a lift if necessary. I have removed engines from a variey of MT sedans in my youth and also did an engine swap on a Series II Land Rover with a V8. I short, I know what I am doing.
So, if you have done it, how long ? Whats are the tricks ? Will it come out with the tranny on ?
David
P.S. I am running down a factory manual.

No need to take out the engine to do a clutch. Or headers. Seems like it would be harder that way, not easier.

Hah...
Busted, wanna play with the toys....
I was just reading what a PITA the headers can be and my brain starting running by itself.... I hate when it starts operating independantly like that.
I searched well but no Clutch replacement write up ??

Its not that big of a deal to do so with the tranny attached either... I did a 92 SR5 manual last Saturday in a few hours with one other persons help... Sounds like you have a nice setup so that would make it even easier/quicker than what I went through... Good Luck!

the clutch part of your job is really easy IMO... i've done clutches/engines on a few toyota's, nissan's and old datsuns and i think the 4runner went the quickest.... when i did the clutch in my v6 'runner i think it took me about 2 hours to have the tranny out, clutch off and flywheel at the machine shop.... i just used the ol haynes manuel... i do have a body lift which makes it much easier to get to the tranny bolts... might think about replacing your slave cyl and starter contacts while its all pulled apart... i also used a tranny jack for the first time on this job which is much better the bench pressing the tranny into place... also inspect the rear main seal, i found mine leaking pretty good onto the clutch... good luck with the engine break down, i used 3 or 4 days part time to take apart, and 2/3 days to put it back in, all in all it was apart for about 2 weeks.... -rowan
