Well I was playing with my truck today and had a little fun



And when you wheel IFS, you will normaly end up bending the rear IFS frame brackets which are oh, so strong!! (Note, I really bent it last year, not today) And when you do, you then invest in a IFS truss ("Truss"=> A part Toyota forgot to put on while building the front end) Now once again, due to the high strength of the IFS, you will then need to make this set up to install said truss (see explanation of "truss" above...)

Now you would think this should be easy to install, I mean, the instructions just say to "silp it inbtween the rear brackets.. However I could not seem to do that, It was 1/4" too narrow...



So, Like a true red neck, I broke out my frame equipment...



But, if you really wheel your truck you have to pull so damn hard on the Hi-Lift to make the truss fit you do this...



Do you think Hi-Lift will give me a new one.. Dangit!, that is the only part I have been able to get painted so far... :cry:

PS.. Pause the video 2 seconds into the start and you will see the "dunk" really was over my headlights.. Pretty cool, On the way in, I had my window open 1/3 of the way.. I left with a lot of muddy water on my seat and a soaked shirt..

Hee Hee.. yea, I might get her dirty.. I added a little to my post, I forgot a photo..

Little momma is doing just fine, Tried but sleeping it off right now, She was working hard to clean the house whil I had the 2 younger boys out wheeling.. (Oldest is sleeping over his Auntie's..)

I did get just enough with the jack that after I grind the side brackets a hair I can bolt it on.. Thing that stinks is I just got the front end alinged yesterday.. I probably threw if off again.. Now if it matters or not, we shall see..

Well that part was cast. The stamped steel one may have faired better.

Why don't you get one of these things if your gonna do stuff like that. It is "made" to pry a car apart in an accident.



FYI- Toyota included that piece on the 3rd gen 4Runners and Tacomas.

Lee, what brand of IFS truss is that?
It's the same color as the NWOR one I put on my '90 truck.

They do work, as that truck had 118K on it I think when it got wrecked, and I never had it aligned.

It was a PITA to install I remember.
I used a cordless 9 v 1/4" drill back in '90 to install it.

I'd like to put on on this rig one day.
RS makes two, you just have to measure the length under there before ordering.
I don't know if Scott still makes it or not.

Hey Steve... I could not do that with that toy.. You can not use yours as a clamp.. You can only do that with a cast Hi-Lift.. Not your stamped steel "toy"... hee hee... But with all honesty, I had both feet on the handle, sitting on the ground pulling with both hands on my sliders when it broke

Corey, that is a Northworst off road one, I got if for a pertty good deal from the Yota Tech classified section.. About $50 shipped and it is still brand new, never installed (Thanks Scott..)

Ahhh... 223-1, how sweet that would be.

I could of used that today in a couple spots.. I gotta get her locked day too.

I just can not see locking it untill I change gears, if I am going to change gears, I want at least 33's (34 X 9.5's would be nice, really) But it is the same old same old.. if I go large tire, I have to do the SAS first, then lock and gear, then tires.. Then long range fuel tank... I think the custom bumpers are next along with a winch.. Soon Bud will have my skid plate out to me, so that will take care of the crossmember.. But now I have to cut a section out of that stupd NWOR truss and raise it.. (It hangs over 1" lower than it needs to. )

Does that truss thing actually do anything besides put another part down low for rocks to grab?

I found my Hi-Lift to be very useful. I sold it to a guy for more than I paid for it.

Damn right it does... The rear brackets bend easy with a hard shot to the wheel.. I took one last year into a rock, and now my control arm is maxed out to get it alinged.. If I had the truss it would not of moved.. I have to chop out a section of it to make it sit flush like the front cross bar.. When I do, I may look into a flat plate skid plate.. It would be easy to make a plate and counter sink some bolts flush.. Just gotta drill a big hole for the oil pan..
What I am going to do is to take a hole saw, drill a 1/2 hole into the side and then cut the top out with a skill saw with a metal cutting blade.. Then a pipe will be fit in the "grove" and cut in half.. This is where my front diff will slide down into so I can raise the truss up where it belongs..

Corey, did you have this problem?? Mine hands down 1" lower than the rest of the stuff...

PS.. I am going to buy that Jack-Mate thing that the burrito man has..

Old thread but FWIW, Total Chaos makes weld-in trusses in two different lengths. Measure yours and order the right one. We put one in the '89 and it fit perfectly.
