how to: dual exhaust?

anybody have dual exhausts on their trucks? (80's V6 models) i think our trucks join near the transmission and comes out as a single outlet, doesnt it? and if i remember correctly, it's pretty damn tight by the firewall. has anybody converted their trucks to a dual exhaust?

dual exhaust, i donno. just wondering if it was easy to do. maybe i'll just get dual mufflers. (the single out the side looks wimpy)

last few digits are your production number worldwide i believe. should be the same for all toyotas. they number the chassis in order.

I know someone who got it done a while back, but i think it was a 22RE. Unfortanitely i dont talk with him anymore, but it CAN be done. I remember asking him how he got the exhaust around the spare, and he siad he just let the muffler shop take care of it.

Oh, I see, so not really true duals, just dual pipes at the rear. Gotcha. Should be doable for not too much then.

Just get a muffler with single in dual out. Then bring the 2 pipes out the back or wherever. that would be your cheapest easiest way. Altho i wouldnt do dual unless u wanna lose valuable backpreasure.

My thoughts exactly. Too much freeflow on your V6 and you'll lose low end power.

Well, you could put the pipe in and not hook it up. You will only be able to tell when your truck is cold in the winter. Then if you ever start running any boost of any sort then you want as little back pressure as possible. I'm waiting til I get an S/C before I do duals. I actually kept my stock piping and just dropped in a muffler for that reason. I'd rather gain high end on the intake side than the exhaust side.

yea, i could do that. but wouldnt that just be rediculous? i mean, its bad enough that i want dual exhausts on a motor that barely makes 120hp, now im putting on fake exhausts. whats next, fake intercoolers. hehehe

I've done this to a 3.0 V-6 but this motor had some goodies to breathe... larger injectors, throttle body, ported & balanced intake & plenium, headers, msd ignition, computer chip, cold air intake, ect., ect....
Then the owner requested 2" dual pipes down along the driver side to 2-turbo mufflers & on back.
All this amounted to a substantial & noticable hp increase w/low end drivability.
& at idle, it sounded like a V/8.

Talking speaking of duals I saw the funniest.........CUUUSSSSTTOOOOMMMM

HAAAHAHAHAHAHA Happy Monday!! this is too funny, on my way to the office this morning I saw a late 80's Ford mini van with chrome wheels, DARK tinted windows, a freaking spoiler bolted above the rear doors, a custom rattle can racing stripe, those ridiculous way over sized vent shades that were out a few years back, a f&^$ed up home grown billet grill, stick on louvers on the front fenders and the best part dual pipes turned out at the rear bumper with huge chrome cans! I’m telling you I was pumping gas and this thing wheeled in to the Shell station and the happy ass hopped out like he was the coolest guy on the planet Earth I couldn’t help myself I had to get back in my truck I was laughing so hard! I wish I spoke Spanish because I would have to ask what the big writing on the back meant! I know its wrong to laugh and criticize some one else but come on! Custom Custom Custom…. Im going to buy a camera phone because here in WV where I live I see it all, old Nissan pick ups with no roofs, to Chevetts with big rims! WTF?

Check the "dual" tailpipes on a 4cyl Sebring sometime. GM decided it would be much cooler to weld in a fake second pipe. Yeah, real cool.

Red face I know what you mean!

Its not just cars trust me, Two Brothers Racing sells a set of dual pipes for BMW F650 dual sports, they are a single cylinder engine, the left can is a storage compartment that looks like a muffler! A Celebrity with spinners, that’s too funny! There is an older S10 in the parking lot today that must have rusted out, they took 1x5 pine boards cut them to about 2' lengths and screwed them all down the sides, then sanded and stained them! WTF? Its always funny to see a beat up Ford escort with big wheels, crappy tinted windows and a pawn shop sub woofer system, stock 1987 speakers just bass, I hate that, really hate that. I would say that is my biggest "pet peive" your in traffic, that’s bad, then there is a UPS truck stinking up the air, that’s a little worse then you have to hear the bass of a 50cent song behind you, you look back and all you see is the front end of a Civic with a hand on the wheel! AERRRRRRGH. Sorry.. afternoon blues…
