How do I get seat measurements?

Hey guys and gals:

Okay, so my seats suck big time. Does anyone know how in the world I would get measurements to see if other makes would fit?

Does it boil down to just ripping the seats out and measuring the bracket? Or are the rails and brackets different sizes from manufacturer to manufacturer?

I know this is an obscure question but I have faith that someone has done this at one point or another.

Got bad new for ya dude. You can buy brackets that are pre-fabed for vheiciels. But far as I know no large manufactor makes one for the 4runner/ Tacoma. So it leaves you to make your own. I installed Sti seat into my 4unner (made by Recaro), and had to cut appart the Sti bracket, and fab the front left bracket out of my getto fab shop. The secret to making my brackets, is found at home depot. I made the front bracket out of Hurricane/ Tornado roofing reinfoencement brackets.

But to be honest with you, I went out and bought all my fabracting brackets first. Then ripped out my seat. Since this was my first time fabracting somthing for seats, the drivers side took me almost 4 hours (I got really fustrated ). I Bolted down the drivers front right side not problomes, just like the rear left. I had to cut a inch rectangle for the rear right raill. The for the front I cut the hurricane bracket to size with a saw. And the drivers side was achored firmly. I even did some improvements to stock hardware. Place larger washers below the bolt that is above the seat bracket. This will ensure even pressure around the whole rail. The most major problome I ran into was cross threading the bolts. I have taken my seats out so many times, to wire my sounds.

******NOTE******
Make sure you use you stock seatbelt coupler. Other wise your seat belt light will always be on.

hmmm... how about where the seat is bolted to the floor? I haven't taken a good look but are those holes reinforced? Or could you just drill into a different location and MAKE it fit? Dumb question I know but hey, I gotta ask

Oh yeah, the mounting bolt locations are reinforced allright. Even so , you *could* redrill and through bolt somewhere else, if you make sure you put some good reinforcing underneath. But if you look at the way the floor is shaped, there really isn't much in the way of alternate locations that will work. Way better to make the brackets fit.
