how to disable the steering lock?????

does anyone know how to disable the steering lock or remove it or somthng. i dont know how it works and i cant find any info on it.

the reason i am asking is because i would like to do away with the key start all togher and do a push button start but i dont want to have to put the key in the ignition to unlock it. i might as well just turn the key and start it. i plan on having other safty features so that no one can just get in and start it. but i dont know if it will work so i figured i would start here. any help would be great

How would a push button be "safer" than a key?

Check out 4crawlers website...I'm 99% positive he has a write-up...but his is for 2nd gen trucks/1st gen 4runners...

Yeah, you can have a pushbutton for "start", but you still have to have a key to select the "on" position (and the "ACC" position if you still want it). Otherwise, your truck will not stay running when you release the "start" button. You don't want to wire it so that it's always "on", because then your radio, cluster lights, etc... will always be on unless you physically shut them off everytime you leave the truck.

You have a switch to act as the ACC and another for the IGN.

Just remove the lock cylinder from the steering column and you wont need the key to turn the wheels...

break it. i have done it before. just get two guys one on either side of the strearing wheel and pull. it will break.

i do not recommend actually doing this but it has worked for me before. it is a pretty good slug of metal in there. probably 3/8 square.
