How bad do 285s rub w/no lift

I just got 285s on back and will be getting them on front next week (yes it looks a bit funny right now... hot rod style). My question is how bad will 285s rub with no lift. Will it be tolerable to drive on the streets until I can get a lift? or will it start ripping stuff off the truck????

Just go straight.

You're probably gonna need to do some trimming to the fender walls, and possibly the outside trim, not to mention the upper A-arms...

I have a 2.75" lift on my Tacoma, with 285's and I'm rubbing the frame at full lock, and in the rear at full stuff. I'm planning at least a 1" bl to take care of it. You may wanna wait and do it right the first time...

Take lots of pictures of the chopping when you trim

arrrgggg.... So I won't be able to drive it if I get 285s on front w/o a lift???? I'll take some pics of it with it the way it is.... it looks like a Starsky & Hutch ride right now.... I love the way the 285s look though.

SO the thing is... I had two balding tires and had to get some new ones, so I went ahead and got the 285s on back and will get the 285s on front next check....

Would a small lift do the trick? Maybe some spacers up front... seriously... I just need it to be drivable on pavement for now... I don't care if it rubs a little bit for now...

That was a mistake. Why did'nt you just get 265's? Now you are opening a can of worms.

You have to lift it or get the right size tires. Your best bet would to be just get the right size and sell the 285's if you cant afford to lift it right.

what wheels are you running them on? stockers or otherwise? i think some 285's rub a arms on stock wheels. my 285's rubbed on my running boards & fender flare trim WITH a 3" lift. i was on 8inchers though, and not stock 7's. why not try the backs up front and see what hits when you go lock to lock? if youre clear with the A arms & the frame rails you may be good to go. oh you might have to check the pinch weld area too...

go n get a 1 or 1.5" BL till you can get a proper lift in. good luck!

Unless its a body lift of bracket lift they will fit just the same now as they do with the lift. Well, with the lift youll get a little more street clearance, but on the trail they will hit everywhere they hit now...

you are gonna rub like crazy... save your money up and buy a lift, you can get a good lift for around 650. otherwise your just going to destroy your new expensive tires and your wheel wells

I appreciate the knowledge. I'll search the body lifts because I love the 285s... I don't really run any hardcore trails but I occasionally (every weekend) have to yank a 5x10 trailer with a 700r and 200x up some pretty nasty climbs and muddy rutted out trails to get my quad to and fro... it's gotten pretty heavy throttled a few times with the stock tires
