How to adjust brake bias on 1st gen

Hi guys, In the past two weeks, I've had to make two emergency stops in my '89 4runner (stupid people pulling out in front of me). Anyway, both times the fronts almost locked up (I could hear the tires starting to squeel a little), and I didn't notice anything at all on the rears. Plus the stopping time was a little longer than I expected it to be. (I know it's not supposed to handle like a sports car, but I still expected better stopping distance)

My guess is that the front/rear brake bias need to be adjusted. I did a search on here and the only thing that came up was that someone said to bend the LSPV rod to make the truck think that the rear is heaver and that will give more rear brake. I'd rather not be messing with that, is there any other way to set it up so that i can have a little more rear brake without bending stuff?

BTW, a month or so ago I had it inspected and pads, shoes, dics, and drums are still good, so that's not an issue.

Thanks!

The only adjustment in the system is at the LSPV. Fab up an adjuster bar for the LSPV rod. Take a piece of 1/8"×3/4" or 1" bar stock about 6-8" long and drill a series of holes in it that match the mounting holes for the LSPV rod at the axle. I think they're either 7/8" or 15/16" apart. Bolt one end to the axle and the LSPV rod to another set of holes. This way you can adjust the setting simply by moving where the arm is attached. Total cost is less than $10.

I'll take a few pics and post them up if needed.

I'm interested in seeing this as well. Does it apply on the 2G's?

Can't you adjust the LSPV on the 1st gens. Mine has an adjustment screw on the rod that hooks to the valve. Remember where it is an adjust it to make the valve think there is more weight in the back.
