How about a tutorial on engine management systems
Ok, I'm confused! All these engine management add-on systems, how about a brief tutorial on the pro's and con's of each. There are bits and pieces of information spread across the net on FTC1, SMT 5/6, Unichip and Super SFC and I'm sure I missed a few.
I have the supercharger installed and recently had Level 10 work their magic. Over the next few months I would like to tackle the fuel system. My assumption is that the fuel injectors and one of the control systems need to be installed together. But I am a bit confused on which system does what and the pro and cons of each.
This may be a good topic to add to the Tech section. Who wants to tackle this monster?
Many thanks!

Z covered it pretty well except for one small error. There are two basic versions of the Split Second FTC. One has their ESC1 (open loop condtioner) which is really nice for engines with a standard O2 Sensor. It causes the ECU to stop trimming fuel under boost so you can much better control over the fuel maps and it solves the low boost surging.
The other version of the FTC does not have this feature and is better suited for trucks that don't have the standard front O2 sensor and have the new style wide band sensor. The ESC function will not work on these trucks so there is no sense in paying for it.

Dr. Z and Gadget, thanks for the summary. That's what I was looking for. Does anyone have any experience with the SMT 5/6 on a 2001? I understand there were some wiring and changes in the last few years. Thanks to all!
