horrible pulley noise
I've had this slight pulley whirring sound that acts up everyonce in a while but i couldn't isolate where it was coming from. today i tightened the belt a little bit and then drove it around with no real change in sounds. then all of a sudden i start the tacoma 2000 2.7 stick shift, and i get this horrible bearing sound. its really bad at idle and goes down a little while i'm driving. I'm taking it in tomorrow but i wanted to get some advice and some estimates before i get it in there and come out with no money left in my account. the pulley on the 2.7 is located centrally on engine front. low down between the radi fan and engine. its two pulleys that are stacked, with two belts running on them. the belt more towards the radiator seems fine but the rear one is noticeably wiggling a little. what is this pulley? how difficult shoudl this be to replace? i assume its a PITA. any price estimates?

not exactly familiar with the 2.7, but i would guess that this is the belt for the water pump. bearing noise that you hear is more than likely from the water pump. all other accessories that are belt driven also have bearings in them. not sure on price for replacement items, its been a while since i have had to replace something like that. most of those parts should be an afternoon worth of work and basic hand tools.
