Horrible left turn Screetch, HELP
Ok, another issue on this used tacoma i just got, these things are starting to make me angry.
Basics, 1997 taco w. fabtech 6 inch lift, 33s, auto
Problem, intermitently the truck is making a LOUD screetching noise, like metal on metal when i turn left (only left). it does not happen every time, but i notice it most often after the car has sat parked for a bit, but not always.
More details, ive tried to diagnose when it happens as best i can, happens only in drive, not reverse. seems to happen more after having the emergency brake on. the sound is rotational, that is it changes sound and speed in relation to speed of vehicle. however, brake guy told me its not the brakes because it only happens when the truck is under a load (turn) BUT IT CAN BE EVEN THE SLIGHTEST TURN, like and inch of the steering wheel. cant see anything rubbing, but have not had time to dismantle yet.
any ideas, ball joint? wheel bearing? Brakes? Pitman? I have no idea?
Please someone tell me you have a clue. Thanks, Steve

Ah...the infamous turn stop bolt screech. When you turn there is a bolt top that is supposed to stop the steering arm. Usually it is covered with a rubber/plastic cover. But they wear out over time. You can either cover it with grease occasionally or you can buy new covers. Will take care of it.
VERY common.

thanks everyone for your posts, i initially thought about the stop bolt screech (found thread), but when i looked at my suspension, i couldnt find one (aftermarket). so i broke down and took it into a freind at the brake shop.
it was a bent backing plate. guess i should eliminate the simple possibilities before worrying about the huge ones. Anyway, im just glad its fixed. thanks for the support. hope i can give back one day. Steve
