Hood vibration
I went on a trip last week and noticed the hood vibrating so badly. I thought the hood was going to come off! Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix to this problem?

Yeah Jaruel,
I have the same issue with my hood. It was suggested to me as well that I get a bug deflector and that it would cut the vibrations down significantly...just haven't gotten around to that 'mod' yet. If I hear anything else I'll be sure to post it.

Gentlemen, try adjusting your hood stops. Pop your hood, at ea. corner there is a adjustable "snubber" on a bolt. Adjust them both to raise up approx. 1/16 of an inch. Close your hood, and go for a spin. Trust me.

Would you by chance have any pics with directions on how to do this? Oh yeah, and when I say "directions, I mean "Dummy Arrows"

On the contrary, I feel the bug guard may cause the hood vibration. I do not run a bug guard, and my hood is fine while driving.
The hood stops are at the front of the engine bay, at each corner. To adjust them, turn left for "up" and right for "down."
In the case of a hood vibrating, I would lean toward adjusting them up.
This may not solve the problem, as my old Tacoma had this problem, and nothing would fix it. There are even guys selling a kit that allegedly fixes this problem once and for all.

Outkast,
I do have the bug deflector. The vibration is towards the windshield. The hood was steady in front where the bug deflector is. Anyone who experienced this can attest that it's a scary one.
I will try adjusting my hood stops as some suggested and hopefully that will cure this. Thanks everyone.

4Runner Hood Vibration - Toyota Fix
I also had viibration on rear the edge of the hood on my 97 4runner with Toyota bug shield. Adjusting the front stops upward reduces the vibration, but resulted in hood sitting higher than fenders in the front.
My son has a 2004 Tacoma double cab. I noticed the Tacoma cowl cover has a rubber bumper mounted in the middle on front edge of cowl. No hood vibration on the Tacoma with bug shield.
I tried the Tacoma cowl and it fit perfectly on the 97 4Runner. The Tacoma cowl totally eliminated vibration on the rear edge.
The part number stamped on the Tacoma cowl is of Toyota 55708-04030 and 55708-04040. I ordered the 55708-04040 cold weather cowl, installed today.
Another option might be to attach a rubber block to 4Runner cowl cover.
2004 Tacoma Cowl Information from Online Catalog:
55781F 5570804040 LOUVER, COWL TOP VENTILATOR. COLD AREA PACKAGE TACOMA $110.84

1Runner is exactly right. At each corner along chassis directly above the head lights, black circular rubber stops about a quarter in diameter, turn counter clockwise to increase their height. The hood should then require more pressure to close.
