Hood release diagram/picture needed

I seem to have pinned the hood release cable somehow and it wont open now. I just put and pull on the cable from inside the cab and its just plum dumb stuck. So I need to somehow open it at the release latch. Im trying to lift the lever that you normally lift to open the hood, but its not budging. What am I missing that I need to hit first? I cant see crap, so a picture of what and where I need to hit would be greatly appreciated.

Should you not be able to unlatch the grille with the hood closed?

Good call, but how do I release the top 2 mounts? I got it completely loose except for those two. How many mounts are there just to make sure. 5?

Nevermind, I got it. HOWEVER, My cable from the coolant overflow and about 6 inches thereafter has lost its insulation around it. So when I pull the lever inside the cabin it will release the hood, but the cable wont retract. Thus, the hood will no longer close. A little yank on the release cable will retract it though. So its not that big of a deal. But since it is no longer mine as of Friday, Id like to fix that. Any ideas? I assume I can just replace the cable, but that looks like a total PITA. If tried placing as much tension on the cable as pissible, it still doenst retract. But just a little yank on it will send it back...

Was the insulation rubbed through? Or pinched?

Maybe lube it with a teflon based lubricant for bike cables. That stuff is slick.

The insulation (the rubber stuff) melted off a while ago. Now it shows the bare wires (inside the bare wires is the hood release cable). When I pull the cable the bare wires contract since they dont have the insulation to keep them straight...as a result when I let go of the cable there isnt enough strenght in the wires to push them straight again. Im going to try a buch of zipties all along the bare wire part and see if that doesnt keep everything nice and tight.
