Is the hood liner required?
Just now getting around to adding a hood scoop and was wondering what parts are required for the hood scoop install? Seems like someone had run down the list naming the parts that were actually needed and those that weren't but after a couple searches, I couldn't come up with that thread. Any help would be appreciated!!

I was wondering if that thing was actually mandatory too. I was planning on doing the swap but after adding up the cost of all the small expensive crap I decided against it. My stock hood doesn't have a liner so I don't see why it has to have one, other than preferrence.

Vato, thanks for the link. I have read that one, but I thought there was another one out there somewhere that ran down the cost and necessity. What parts actually get painted? Is it the hood and buldge only?

Liner
The liner isn't necessary. It's there to protect the paint, that's all. Even without it though it isn't likely you'll have paint problems unless you have aftermarket paint. Because it's an insulator, it even makes your engine run a little bit hotter, but I'd reccomend if you were going to swap out hoods to not get it unless you have money coming out of your . Unless you could find one for really cheap, of course.

i want to put a hood scoop on my 98'Runner and i emailed my local dealer here's what they said; Bobby-
The hood scoop you are seeking, though never originally intended for your vehicle will more than likely fit based on the information I see in my computer, however I have no first hand experience with this. The part number for the hood alone, unpainted is $292.67usd. You would also need an hood insulator 53341-35032 @ $193.68, the hood scoop insert 76181-35901 @ $117.16 and a couple plates to secure everything together 76192-35010 @ $16.10 & 76182-35020 @ $16.63. The remainder of the parts to make this conversion complete are in common with the hood you already have.
A body shop of your choice would paint and install this hood for you but I have no idea what the cost of that would be.
Thanks for choosing Toyota Vallejo.

you should take all those part numbers to an online oem parts dealer, it will beat conicelli's price by a mile. try www.1sttoyotaparts.com or some of the other sites that I have on my website below. click the link for "Toyota Online Parts and Tools Shopping Links" once on my page.
