Homemade snorke, featuring Stainless Steel pipe

Hi Group.

I would like to install a snorkle for my Surf (4runner turbo diesel). I dont like the look of the off-the-shelf black plastic units and would like something a little bit custom. I was thinking about sections of stainless steel pipe connected by black plastic rubber joiners for bends etc. Has anyone done a similar job, or maybe made one from PVC? I would like to find out how difficult the job is annd if there are any trick for young players?

Regards
James (Sydney Australia)

Hi James, here is a home made one, but I think the guy took it off as he was bashing it into stuff and wrecking it.

He has the snorkel writeup on his page.

Hey, just in case you have not seen mine, mine is made out of a softer silicone tubing, and is low profile.

I "relocated" my intake using 3" air duct tubing. Chech your local hardware store and brouse around. It took me a while to figure out what exactly I needed, but it's best to design it for your needs.

MY GAWD!! Corey, YOU are "THE MOD GOD!" I wont be happy til' I have one of those! Where'd you get it?? What'd it cost? Did you get the propellar receiver-hitch cover too? Did you do a write-up on the install, or was it done in a shop by pro's?? It was a pro install was'nt it?? It's too clean to have been done by an average guy!!!

(When I 1st saw the pic, my brain didnt want to register what it saw. I laughed so long, there were 2 posts up before I could type! Good one Corey... Good one!)

Somebody say prop?

I don't run that anymore, as it has a "hidden meaning" I found out from my brother who is a retired Seattle police officer.

Once I found out what it stood for, I yanked it off.
I don't want to go into detail here on it though.

Welcome to the board.

Corey you have sparked my curiousity (don't know if that is a good thing though). Give us a clue as to the hidden meaning.

OK, OK...

If you have one on the back and you are a straight guy, you better be ready for not so straight guy's wanting some "rear" action.

I kid you not.
That is how they identify each other in some states.

It must be in their "handbook" if one exists, I don't know.
Ask a state patrolman, or someone else in law enforcement.
Perhaps they can shed some light on the subject.

My X wife's husband wanted the prop after he saw that I took it off.
I was happy to get rid of it.

Did I tell him why
What do you think

But lets get this topic back on track again.
It has strayed from the original topic quite a bit.

Back on topic
I always thought snorkles where kewl but i never liked how they looked on the outside of the 4Runner. I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of someone routing the air intake tube thru the cabin and possible out the roof. Not sure how the pipe would look going up the A post on the passenger side or even up the B post.
