Question Help with tire/wheel info for 4th gen

I'm looking to upgrade to 20" wheel and tire combo and need info on the factory wheels.

Can anyone confirm the following specs of the factory wheels? I've been searching but have had a fair bit of trouble finding the info:

Factory Wheels for 2003 Limited V8:

Size/width: 17x7.5
Backspacing: +30mil
Bolt pattern: 6 x 5.5 or 6 x 139.5
Lugs: LUGCENTRIC

Can anyone please confirm the above?

Thank you all very much!

Marco.

Backspacing and wheel size are correct, don't know about the lug layout. Check with Lefty, member, he had a doctoral thesis (j/K) on backspacing for the new Runner. Few other members have 18" wheels like Momo.75.

That's interesting;

The american racing 20's have +19mil of backspacing... (i checked online)

Chris, do your tires "stick out" from the sides of the truck? I cant tell from the photos, although its looks like they dont.

Do you think i could get away with a 9" wide wheel with +20mil of backspacing?

Thanks,
Marco.

Upgrade?

Let's see. 20" wheels cost more. Are less durable. Reduce acceleration. Worsen the ride (due to both higher unsprung weight and shorter sidewall). Increase chances of blowing a tire when driving offroad.

Sounds more like a downgrade to me.

No they dont stick out, i took a picture to show it but have no where to host it. my domain should be finally registered in a day and ill have the picutre up to show you.

I aint not expert on tire/wheel matching. I had my buddy who runs a sts shop hook me up. But as long at the new tire is very close to factory size I dont see why it wouldnt.

Thanks for the help Chris,

Well, looks like my "downgrade" is almost figured out:

First off; I realized If you buy a 20" wheel with 6 x 139.5 bolt pattern that fits the 4runner, you need to get about +20mil of backspacing, this is because the wheel will usually be 8.5 - 9" wide, an inch to inch and a half wider than the stock wheel which is +30mil.

Backspacing should be a little bit less due to the fact that the wheel is wider. So a 20" wheel with +20 mil should be perfect.

Right now im thinking about the motto MT600.

Here is a link:

Tell me what you think Chris!

Marco.

PS - Chris, did you use your factory lug nuts?

I'm going to run either 265-50-20 or 275-45-20.

265-50-20 is the exact same hieght as stock, but you should always check with the tire mfg, as tire hieghts can slightly vary between brands even though the spec'd dimensions are the same.

Marco.

Edge,

"Full Jam" means "fully optioned"

"Sans" is french for "missing" or "without"

So it means "Fully optioned without Navigation"

Marco.
