HELP! Security Light
Hey guys, I posted a question the other day via the phone and a friend. I was on vacation in North Carolina and my truck would not start one morning. I noticed the security light on the dash was still flashing after I put my key in the ignition. Is this normal?
I am back in Florida but my truck is still in North Carolina. Any help is greatly appreciated. Could my truck not starting be related to that light flashing? I cannot remember for the life of me if it is supposed to go out after inserting the key. I have an extra key that I can overnight to the garage if that could be the cause.
My truck is a 99 4Runner 4wd limited.
Thanks!

My remote only has lock, unlock, rear window, and panic. No remote start features that I'm aware of. The problem is intermittent, and most of the time it works fine. But especially when it's very cold, the security light still blinks after unlocking the truck with the fob and inserting the key into the ignition. If the security light doesn't go off, the truck won't crank...if it does go off, the truck cranks every time with no problems at all.

did you just unlock it with the remote, or did you unlock with the key? Its something with the security systemin the car, the sensor says your theft deterrent is still 'armed' or what have you, so it keep your car from cranking. I had a similar problem on an 03 S10.

my 97 taco alarm was blaring at me last week when i reconnected the battery. the alarm has been disabled for years.
the engine woudl not start so i turned the key from off to key on, not start , between 3 and 5 times. then from off to start.
if the red light is blinking , on my taco i can push the red light, its a button. i push it a few times too while going from off to key on.

If its the factory system you turn the key really quick a few times, my camry was this way. It would disable if you did a sequence with the key on and off and pushing a little button.

The 99+ 4Runner Limiteds all have this "immobilizer" system it seems. Unlike other Toyota vehicles, there is no button or apparent way to bypass a malfunctioning system.
