Help me with a problem on my new Runner

I really need some help here guys, this is new to me...

My new 4runner (old one destroyed in fire) has a factory keyless/alarm system. It came with 3 keys and 1 remote. The remote has 2 buttons, 1 appears to do nothing, the other locks/unlocks all doors.

When you lock the dors with either the button or the remote they cannot be unlocked with anything but the remote. The keys won't work in the doors. They can put the back window down but the alarm goes off.

Can I change it so either the key or the remote works?

If not, how can I disable it so its a keys only system?

As of now, the only way into it is with the remote and thats bad!

Thanks,
Lamm

My 4runner has the factory alarm and keyless entry and only has one button on the remote. It also says TDS on it. I think yours is aftermarket.

I have NEVER heard of such a problem with a factory keyless entry system. I would have to say its a botched install on a aftermarket...or it could be a botched install on a factory if your sure it was factory.

Its partially solved now. They gave me 2 valet keys and 1 master so the valet keys wouldnt do squat except in the ignition. The master can lock and un-lock the doors at any time and lower the window, but the alarm still sounds after a few moments if you don't put it in the ignition.

Can I make it so the alarm is only armed by the remote, not just by locking the doors either with the button or knobs on the doors? I don't like having to start my truck before the alarm goes off, I would rather it only arms when i tell it to, not all the time.

New suspension thred in off-road tech, I deleated the old one when I saw the sticky about thread locations. Thank you.

Yeah, I had to get another car fast. Nobody in my family could lend me one and I go to school, have a job with an EMS company and a fire depertment so I didn't really have time to dilly dally around. I also have a girlfreind, you know how that goes.

I will be stripping the burnt one today so It can get towed outa my parking spot! I'm sick of looking at it.

Hey Lamm-

Based on the fact that you have a 2 button remote and assuming it is a Toyota factory model, I am guessing that you have a pre-1999 factory alarm. (I have a 99, with 3 buttons, I'm told 99 was the first year they started using the 3 button remote). I still have the manual for my alarm, which describes different dip switch settings to adjust how the alarm functions, such as automatic re-arming after disarming. I don't remember an automatic arming option, but it may be listed. Again, I'm not sure how relevant this is, since mine is a 99 and yours is not (?) but let me know, and I can fax or e-mail the relevant pages when I get home.

Yeah, if you could check. The fob has 2 circle buttons and 1 red LED.

I found the controll unit, but I can't tell if it has switches on it or not.

If anyone has a 95 with the owners manual with alarm info, please i could use your help.

Thanks,
Lamm

OK Lamm- This might work for your 95- Straight from the 99 RS3000 Plus owners manual:

Page 6:
Passive (Automatic Arming) - The RS3000 Plus is programed to automatically arm 30 seconds after the ignition key is turned off and removed and the vehicle exited and the last door closed. Note: The factory preset operation of this system is Passive Arming "ON"

Page 11
To change the Passive Arming Function, follow the steps below:
1) Sit in drivers seat with all doors closed.
2) Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to "ON" (Not "ACC") 5 times (ON - Lock - ON - Lock - ON - Lock - ON - Lock - ON) within a 10 second period. The Status Montor LED [The "Security" light on the dash] turns on.
3) Select the operating mode:... Turn Passive Auto Arming Off: Open and close the driver's door twice, then turn the ignition switch to "Lock" position (Exterior lights flash twice).

If you do not turn the ignition key to lock or exceed 30 seconds during the programing steps, the Status Monitor's LED will turn off and the previous operation mode will remain unchanged.

[FYI to turn passive arming on, steps are the same, but on #3 you open and close the driver's door once.]

Also, if there is any question about your alarm fob being factory, check out this website: www.keylessride.com. It has pictures of the factory remotes for vehicles by make and model.

Hope this helps-
