Help me with my timing belt

Replacing my timing belt and water pump after pump locked up and it jumped time., i bought a dayco kit that has everything, my question is were do i get my slack from to slip belt on , i havnt released the pin yet on the hyd tensioner but when i slide belt on and just tighten up the tensioners it pulls my timing marks off. Is there a trick to this or do i just compensate and keep trying

Are you working on a 3.4? The belt should have marks on it to align it to the cam gear and crank. I don't remember having any issues on mine. The belt should slip on ,as long as the marks are lined up, pull the pin. Should be good.

I just did mine earlier today on the 3.4. I took the top roller loose, very loose, and once I had it across the cam gears correctly, went slow and snugged up the top roller.

I could not get mine under the roller without loosing it. Once on and ready to go pull the pin on the tensioner.

Yes 3.4, im aware of marks and all but when i tightend up the rollers my marks on cam were lined up , but marks on belt were off a couple teeth, i went thru this a couple times. Said screw it as long as all marks line up it dont matter were marks on belt are.only way i could slip belt on was to loosen both rollers. Its all good she fired rite up
