help me Ducky. running lights disconnect

hey ducky, thanks for the very complete info on disconnecting the running lights. I have a 2001 4 runner and disconnected the running lights as you described. the only thing now is my "high beam" indicator is always lit (dimly) when I have my lights turned off. It's even on when the ignition is off. Have you heard of this, is there something I can do?

Thanks again!

Uhm.. weird... no, mine used to flash ocasionally, but i havent seen it do it in a while, did you do the mod with your battery disconnected? might be a futile attempt but try disconnecting your battery for a bit... make sure the connector is firmly in place...

does your headlights work fine? low and high beam?

thanks for the responses. i'll try disconnecting, waiting and re-connecting the battery. my lights are working fine otherwise (high and low beam) but right now, if i'm driving with the lights off, the high beam indicator either stays on dimly or flashes intermittently and sometimes i can hear a humming sound. if i turn the lights on, the indicator goes off and the humming stops. if I leave the lights off and i turn the truck off, the indicator stays on very, very dimly.
i read in the 2000 Toyota TSB that the avalon needs to have one end of the cut wire grounded. i'm wondering if i should try it.
any other info is welcome! i'll let you know what happens after disconnecting the battery.

i tried disconnecting, waiting and reconnecting the battery and there was no change. any other suggestions would be appreciated. also, any insights on grounding the wire like it talks about for the avalon in the toyota TSB would also be appreciated. the TSB link is http://www.tacomaterritory.com/~faqs...t/dsabldrl.htm

thanks again for the info so far.

Ive seen that, but I do not know, it worked for me and others just as the instructions say... if you do, do it at your own risk... Id be happy to modify the instructions to your findings...

well, i tried two approaches. first i reconnected the relay wire, then disconnected the battery then disconnected the relay wire again and got the same old result. very dimly lit hi beam indicator.

then i tried grounding the relay wire as its shown in the TSB for the avalon. i also put an in-line fuse just in case. everything looked great and the high beam indicator was off...until i started the truck and put it in gear. then the daytime running lights came on for a while until my inline fuse (2 amp) blew. i disconnected everything and decided i'll live with the hi beam indicator light on all the time. as long as i drive it often, i don't think i'll have a battery problem.

if anyone comes up with any ideas, i'd love to hear them. thanks!

Good luck, Like I said mine flashed for a bit, and then it magically stopped one day... *shrug*

Throw in a switch or something in between the cut wire, leave it disengaged for a bit to see what happens... =D
