Help Identify this Part

I'm needing a little help determining the piece on the tailpipe of my 1998 4Runner. I ordered a new pipe, it didn't come with it and I didn't see an option for it. (I got the pipe from RockAuto). Is this an accessory? I couldn't see where it would attach to the body, I may not know what I'm looking for.

I can't seem to get the picture attached to this post, so I will describe it as best I can. It has a rubber bumper about 2" in diameter attached to a bracket that is welded to the tailpipe on the Catalytic Converter side. The piece the bumper is attached to is bolted to the bracket welded to the tailpipe. It has a heat shield around part of the bumper.

If my description doesn't help, I could email a pic if someone could attach it.

Any help would be appreciated,
JaayDee

It almost sounds like a universal exhaust hanger of sorts, kind of tough to call though. PM me for an e-mail addy

Sounds like an exhaust damper. This would help to cancel out vibration from your exhaust system and is meant to just be kind of suspended from the exhaust in mid air.

X2. Based on your description, I think Deathtrap hit the nail on the head.

Definitely a damper. Nothing detrimental, but you could pick up some extra vibration without it. I would unbolt or cut off whatever you can and hang on to it in case you decide later that you want it on your new exhaust. Check out the link below if you'd rather replace it.

Yes Fellas,

That would be it. I will take it off the old pipe, maybe weld it on the new one at a later date. It was a pain to get that muffler off to begin with. My cousin suggested letting the pros do it, I believe he's right!

So far I haven't noticed any difference, but I will keep an ear out for it.

Thank you for the help, I knew I could count on you folks.

Probably wont need it on the new exhaust. I wouldn't worry about it.
No damper on either of my trucks.
