HELP! I can't get into my truck!

Well, for some odd reason, my alarm pads won't unlock my truck anymore. I replaced the batteries in BOTH pads and they still won't unlock. The only way I can get in is to unhook the battery, pull the alarm fuse do disable the alarm and then start the car like normal. I'd like to be able to use my alarm as normal and it's wierd that it all of a sudden won't work. The pads have the red light go on to show that it's trying... but it's like it can't talk to the truck anymore.

Any advice other than scrapping my alarm system and starting from scratch?? I really like the keyless entry feature. I'd like to avoid having to take it into Toyota to have it looked at or even reprogrammed. But maybe that's my answer? Help.

several people sell them on ebay, and they tell you how to program. Probably the back side of your buttons are wore down and not making contact with the little circuit board inside. I bought some off ebay and just switched the guts to another shell because of button wear.

maybe you kicked something loose or something came loose by it's self and that is causing the reciver to not be able to talk to the alarm's computer...just my $.02

This isn't it because when I swtiched out the batteries, I pressed the button from the inside directly on the circuit board.

Does your 4runner have a little toggle switch (near top) on the driver side kick panel?

alarm reprogramming

eric,

YOU NEWB, you should've found it already!

assuming you have the rs3000, go to my page here: http://www.4runners.org/articles/rs3000

personally, id ditch that thing. pulling it out is easy. installing a new alarm system like the commando 870 like many of us have is worth it

Till you make your mind up on what to do.You can arm and disarm by simply unlocking the door with your key instead of the remote.I had the rs3000.You can also arm it by just pushing the power door lock button and closing the door. You dont have to pull the fuse.

I was just going to ask that same thing if it still worked by using the KEY?

clean electrical contacts with alcohol. i.e. where battery connects and the like. May be something more complicated, but might as always try the easy things first. Worked for me after washing my remote.

Try this reprogramming procedure. This is what the dealer did when they programmed a new remote for the 2000 4Runner I purchased this weekend:

4Runner Instructions

I have a 1999 4Runner and I followed the directions above (which I've copied below) with one exception. In step 8 -- I held the lock button instead of the unlock button in order for the directions to work.

Step 1 - open drivers side door and get in your vehicle.

Step 2 - put key completely into ignition, then pull out.

Step 3- with door open, lock and unlock 5 times on door console (ten clicks total).

Step 4 - close door then open door.

Step 5 - lock and unlock 5 times on door console (ten clicks total).

Step 6 - put key completely into ignition then turn to the on position then pull key out (you will now hear the door locks lock then unlock a couple of times)

Step 7 - now quickly press the lock and unlock buttons at the same time only for about a second.

Step 8 - then quickly press the lock button for just a second.

Step 9 - exit car and close the door

After you do this you should hear a beep then your lights will flash. This will indicate that your remote is programmed to your vehicle.

stick the key in the ignition and turn to on then off then on then off

you should hear the door locks go clunk clunk
press the two top buttons on the remote for 1 second
then press the unlock button by itself for 1 second. Now for the second remote,
press the two top buttons on the remote for 1 second,
then press the unlock button by itself for 1 second. After you have completed the program of both remotes, put the key in the ignition and pull it out. Your remotes are now programmed.

I was told that there was a limit to the amount of remotes that can be programmed to a single alarm system. I did a test with 5 and they all worked just fine. When you do the reprogramming, makes sure you do all of the remotes, I didn't and had to do it all over again, since my other remote wouldn't work afterwards.
