Hey YT need some help!! Looking to buy a a travel trailer thats 23 feet with towing weight of 3,800 lbs. The Dealer is going to hook me up with a load balance, tow brake, new hitch wiring kit. the trailer comes with electric brakes.


Anything I should look out for to get from the dealer?

Anything I should look out for with towing that much weight with my 4runner? any uprgrades needed for towing?

Here is my setup:
2000 4runner Auto V6 SR5 2wd
2.5 inch suspension lift, soon to have a 2 inch BL
32/11.5r15 BFG's

Maybe a transmission cooler. That seems like a a lot of weight once you pack in all your gear for the 4Runner.....

That's probably going to push the limit of your 4Runner. Manufacturers weights are generally dry. Add 150-200 lbs of water. 60 lbs of propane, battery, leveling jacks & ramps, tools, pots & pans, clothes, sleeping gear, etc. & your towing weight will probably be close to 5,000 lbs. Don't forget to add in the stuff in the 4Runner, passengers, gas, etc. Your Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) is approx 9,000 lbs. The empty 4Runner is approx 4,000 lbs.

You'll def. be pushing the limits and maybe then some. What you need to do, and don't be embarassed to do it, is pack all you junk and passengers with you to the sales floor. Load it all up and go weigh before you buy it. It the sales rep willl not let you do this, find a new dealer.

IMO you will be overloaded easily.

Definitely a big tranny cooler if you do this anyway, but "you're gonna need a bigger boat".

X4 or 5 on the tranny cooler, heavy duty rear springs.

hopefully you don't have to pull it up any large hills you will be wishing for a V8

tundra would prob better! lol would say a T4R be able to pull a trailer with 2 snowmobiles on it? safety of course

Looks like we are looking into getting a 2008 or 2009 Quad cab Tundra SR5 with the TRD package 4x2 with the I-force V8.

You won't go anywhere fast. I would go with one ....or two tranny coolers. Bypass the OE cooler so you are not preheating your transmission fluid.

Get heavy duty coils and airbags inside the coils.

Gen an Hensley hitch-and make sure the controller is a good one. The "free" one from the dealer might be garbage.

Oh, rip out the intake muffler, insert a piece of pipe and put in the deckplate mod.

If you just go in there stock, it will be a wild ride. But hey? What is insurance for?
