HELP! 33x12.50's...

So I have ordered my lift kit from toytec, it is the 3" Kit with front and rear OME coils, plus a 1" body lift and a diff-drop kit. All of that is ordered and on the way. Now my question is what is everyone's opinion on tire size?? I had planned on getting 33x12x50's b/c I love the look of wider tires, but i have read a few read ups saying that I will have bad bad rubbing problems with 12.50's. With my set up should i order 12.50's or do yall think it would be better to get the smaller 10.50's. I will be doing minor off-roading nothing to serious. Please give me your input so i can go ahead and order what i need.

Nice i also just ordered from Toytec. Have you considered trimming? I havent put 33's on my runner yet so you'll have to wait for someone else to chime in.

I am not sure on them there fancy 4runners but on my 2nd gen with 35's I had to get rid of some of the pinch welds that are at the rear of the tire (if you look at wear your tires get closest to the body at the front of the door in the wheel well you will see the pinch welds sticking off the body about an inch or so)

I took a whizz wheel and cut the welds off from the bottom of the door up around to about the middle of the tire to clear my 35x12.5's(I should have and will soon have gone to the top of the tire area) took like 5 mins to do both sides and you can always stick a jack under the tire and compress it to see where you need to cut , smash or bend the welds , but make sure you go to full lock left and right when checking the clearance needed that's where I get the only rubbing I have is full lock either direction.

10.5's should be no problem at all if you go with them 12.5's only hit at the rear of the tire that's why you need to trim the pinch welds.

Problems arise with 12.50 and the upper a-arms if im not mistaken. So you have to either use some bolt on wheel spacers or trim+reweld your upper a arms.

OH ya I thought I mentioned that but I guess I only had the thought in my mind and forgot to take it to the fingers and type it lol. 3.75 min.backspace on the rims to clear upper a arm

I would personally go with the 10.5's they cut through snow and mud and you have a larger turning radius. Just my opinion.

Running sway-a-way 2.5 coils, with camburg upper control arms with 33x12.50 MTR's. To stop rubbing I took off those pretty fender trim things, smashed in/cut pinch welds and cut my front and rear bumpers to match the arc of my fenders(ended up cutting about 2 inchs off it). O and I have negative 6 back spacing. Now it does not rub at all, even when I want to get a little crazy a jump my yota!

One vote for 12.50's

I pretty much clear 33X12.50s with only a 2" OME. I get some rub on the sway bars at full left or right turn of the steering, but Im not getting rid of the "vintage" alloys so 1" spacers are going to be my solution, but its not much to deal with until then. 12.50s are narrower on my 7" rims as well...

First off, what kind of wheels do you want to run? Stock or aftermarket? Also, with that much lift, you will most likely not have any rubbing issues with a 33" tire. I had a 3" lift and no rub with my 33's. YMMV. Mayyyyybe a little triming to the front plastic valance in front of the tire and back of the fenders.

On stock wheels, I'd go with a 10.5-11" wide tire. On aftermarket I'd go with a 16X7 or 16X8 with a 4" to 3.5" backspace to run a 33X12.50" tire. For reference stock wheels have a backspace of 4.625". Not sure on offset. Might be zero.

I run Moto Metal 909 17" wheels that have a 4.5" backspace and negative 12mm offset on Trxus M/T 35X12.50 and my arms dont rub, but only have 1/2" clearance. I am adding spidertrax 1.25" wheel spacers to get more clearance and increase my track width. I will have to trim more once they are on since the wheel is now moved further out from the wheel opening.

However, it is always best to choose a properly backspaced wheel rather than adding spacers. I just happen to love my wheels so I can live with the spacers.
