Heat\AC Blower motor and fan

I've got a '98 4runner. The fan sticks sometimes, and I have to bang on it to get it to get-going..

Is the fan and blower motor one piece/ a sealed unit? or can it be disassembled and worked on? ..I've got a feeling that it's just some bad or worn contacts.. But if it can't be worked on I'd rather just pull it out and replace it when the replacement unit comes in.

Same symptoms

98 4Runner. I tried taking it apart to sevice and wound up breaking things. It still works but is noiser than ever. New blower is on order. Someone smarter than me could probably have fixed it but for this guy it is $100 or so well spent.
