Headlights Not coming on

Headlights Not coming on
Ok i noticed tonight my lights were really dim so I turn on my high beams and nothing. I realized its just my DRL's which are on with my park lights. All the lights on the dash are lit and my turn signals work but when i turn the light switch to the on position for headlights they do not get brighter and the Bright lights dont come on. I have a 2000 4Runner.
Any ideas--I didnt think it was the bulbs since the DRL's are still on adn it was too dark for me to check fuses but if it was a fuse wouldnt the DRL's be out also and if it was the switch wouldnt that prevent the park lights from turning on?

Being that the DRL are working does that mean the light bulbs are fine? I'll have to check tomorrow as I'm not in a lit place at all. Would it be best to check under hood fuse or fuse box itself int he cabin.
Lol your all over the place i see you replied on both forums, thx

If the DRL's are working, then the bulb is ok. I believe the bulbs are single filament but regardless, on low beam they should use the same filament as when they're on DRL. I'm not familiar with the light circuit and don't know if a blown headlight fuse or bad headlight relay would allow the DRL's to continue to operate. Perhaps someone with a wiring diagram could chime in.

If the DRLs are on then the bulbs are good, and the fuses are good. The way the DRLs work is when you start the engine the signal from the alternator goes to the DRL module and that turns on the headlight relay. The DRLs use the same bulbs and fuses but it grounds the lights through a resistor to get slightly dimmer light. When you turn on the headlight switch the DRL relay switches the ground so you get full brightness. Could be the headlight switch or the DRL relay.
Catupsum, I can send you a wiring diagram if you give me an email address.

Ok I went out during lunch to check my lights. I checked the first headlight fuse under the hood and it was fine. So i checked my lights and they were working fine, high's and low's. I checked all the other fuses for lights and they were fine also.
Not sure what it was but its odd cause they didnt work onthe drive in this morning either.
Also if i leave my headlights on when i cut the truck off, should they turn off when i exit the truck?
