headlight bulbs upgrading

Any guys ever thought about getting HID for your 4runner?. I was thinking of buying one of those xenon h4 bulbs for my 4runner. For like $10 i was thinking maybe 5000k for the blue stylish look. Or go for performance and go for 7000k for like plasma white.

Watch out for the blue tinted el cheapo bulbs, they are crap and also the 80/100w bulbs can be damaging. I had tried a few before getting the silverstars, i love em. They are the proper wattage and produce a bright white light which looks great and lights everything up. They do have some cost, but Ive had mine in for 5 mo's now and love em.

i love em, theyre much brighter and look great. i dont yet see a reason to dislike bulbs just because theyre cheap!

not saying the el cheapo lights are bad... however you must watch out, as many are designed to pull a lot more power than the stock harness will allow, and in that causes problems.... i have 7x6" conversion h4s on my truck and they came with private label lights... they are supposedly 90/100 watt bulbs... they are a lot brighter and whiter than my stock ones were and have lasted over 6 months, however iworry about them doing damage to my car.... they havent yet though... so just be careful....

**Not Related**Elway I can see why you need upgraded bulbs. Your headlights must need to be bright with the tinted headlight covers

**Related** I upgraded to the Silverstars for like $80 including fog lights and have been satisified thus far. Though I would rather have spent $40.

Not true! I take them off at night, and have since installed some nice driving lights for low light times in the evening

I have the Silverstars in my 96, they make a dramatic difference. I was wondering if anyone has gone a step more and purchased the new lenses? Does the modern lense design improve the brightness?

I have been running 80/100w bulbs for over year now and have had no probs with them. I will never go back to stock wattages.

Whatever you do stay way from blue tints. Blue is the shortest wavelength and the first to refract. That means that your vision actually gets worse in blue light although people still seem to think otherwise. The exception is a real HID system which has a bluish appearance at the bulb but actually puts out white light, not blue. But a real HID system is big $$$$$$

after Chris (KCTopher) mangled my 4runner into a big, gigantic pile of sand at Pismo 4RJ 2, one of the lights went out. I had to buy another bulb so i went and purchased a pair of regular Sylvania bulbs.

i couldn't be happier. For $10 (or $12) for a pair, i see better now in the darkness. i dont know why i thought those blue visions were so great. i had those piaa ones (cant remmber the name), but those were the WORST.

im not sure if you mean an HID upgrade, but i thought a kit was available.

most of us, though, are just talking about bulb changes.

Hmm, surprized to hear no one else has done real HIDs for their 4runner. I have a 97, but have the newer headlights now with HIDs. I'll try to take some pics when I get a chance.
