3.0 and headers should not be in the same sentence ever. It is a pain in the ass due to the jacked up crossover which you will need to replace. It can be done by a home mechanic, but it definitly is a pain in the ass. Small hands and three elbows per arm help out a lot too.

It really isn't that hard man...just have patience and it goes pretty smoothly...hardest part on mine was bolting em in and figuring out how to get em in once I figured it out they slid right in.

I didn't say it was impossible. I just said that 3.0 and headers should not be in the same sentence with easy. Actually, re-reading my post, I didn't say that *laughs*. That is what I meant to say though. You are right it does take patience and a little creative language. It definitly is not one of the easier or even medium header installs though. Sorry for the mispoken comment.

Yes, that's a common post about NWOR.

If you don't want to pony up for TRD, Downey's are nice. I've been running them for about two years.

BUT... Are you supercharged? I would NOT recommend headers unless you're running an S/C or are thinking about it in the very near future. The cost-to-performance ratio just isn't good enough on an N/A engine. I ran headers when I was still N/A for a year and it was a real waste of money.

Mark- unfortunately us 3.0 guys can't get a readily available supercharger...thats for you 5v guys, along with the trd products.

Oh crap... sorry! I didn't see the "2nd gen" part.

CARRY ON!

Buy headers! They rock! (just not from NWOR)

I put NWOR headers on my truck. Ive done intake and 2.5" exahust. I think it has lots more a$$ than my tired v6 4runner.

Im going to put a rebuilt v6 in the 4runner soon. (picking up a 3vze this weekend) So the question, go with expensive (but overall please with) NWOR, or downey.

Customer service wasnt the best, and ive had a CE light ever sence i put them on my truck (for EGR valve).

anyone else want to weight in?

Downey...

I haven't heard anything bout the NWOR's, but I've installed and ran downey's on a lot of trucks...no prob.'s

I currently am running them on my 94 3VZE and my 86 22r...they work well...no leaks...

And the 3.0 install is a pain in the a$$, but well worth it in the end...

FYI, I bolted up my headers then took it to an exhaust shop and had it custom done y-pipe and all with a high flow cat and a 2 chamber flowy...real nice and my y-pipe tucks just under my front driveshaft...

good luck...

And FYI- I run stock gaskets....

To Silver Truck, damn thats a lotta miles...I just turned over 111,000 on my '86 and 125,000 on my '94

Ive put a new EGR on, new O2 sensor, ive troubleshot the pot, the vacume lines just about everything.

From my (extensive) reserch i belive its just a design diffrance. the code it kicks is EGR gas temp to low bla bla bla. The port for the EGR is much closer to the #1 cylinder, with them flowing so much better i dont think it gets nearly as hot as it used to. (a good thing)

Ive had no problems with my carpet, brake lines anything like that. Bout the only problem i currently have (other than the CE) is my starter contacts are WAY gone but i refuse to replace them because its virutally imposible to get the damn starter off with the headers in the way now.

I did buy the Y pipe from NWOR the first time. WHich did add considerable expense, and i had it chopped up and modified anyway. It had the exhaust hanging down WAY to low.

I know they are a pita to install but im going to have the motor out anyway so i figure what better time to do it.

so i just got off the phone with both Downey and NWOR.

BOTH dont have any headers, BOTH are on backorder "expecting them any day"

odd if you ask me.

current price...
NWOR $649
Downey $393

both crome

so why the hell are NWOR like $250 more. i like my NWOR but not THAT much... then again i havnt had any Downey's either... but plenty of people have and like them...

I was wanting to get my new motor dropped into the 4runner by thanksgiving but i refuse to put the stock manafolds back on the block im rebuilding....

suggestions?
