I'm wanting to do a brake upgrade on my tacoma....I am going to be painting my calipers anyway so I figure while I'm there I'll just knock it all out at once as my rotors are needing replacing soon anyway.

I've been reading about the Tundra upgrade on here and that sounds appealing but I think if I just upgrade to Hawk pads and some solid Brembo rotors I'll be very well off.

So...which Hawk pads are the best for a 3rd gen? I will be towing a pontoon boat here and there also, if that makes a difference. I also live in the mountains of NC, so I'm driving downhill a lot.

I went with the LTS pads on my 4runner. I can feel the improvement over the oem pads. I would recommend them with the brembo blanks.

Yeah...I've been experiencing a little fade/pulsation when going downhill and having to brake around corners for a prolonged period of time (for example NC9 for any Black Mountain/Lake Lure visitors and residents on YT )

I'm thinking this is a mixture of OEM pads (which are fairly new on my truck) and OEM rotors that I have never changed and if they are original have around 150k on them.

I'm in the process of getting a pontoon boat which I will be towing to nearby lakes for some Striper fishing....



Some of the roads are quite hilly and curvy so I'll need some better brakes before I starting towing a pontoon. Right now I'm going with a friend but I want the ability of going solo!

Well...I've been doing more research about the Tundra brake upgrade and it seems that you have to have 16 inch wheels in order for the upgrade to work.

I've only got 15 inch wheels so I guess this upgrade is a no go unless I can find some 16 inchers for cheap somewhere.

LTS pads and Brembo blanks looks like the best bet at the moment.

I have the LTS on my 4 runner and they are great!!, I also run Hawks on my Supra.

Ok....

I found some Tundra calipers and rotors at a local salvage yard for $125 out the door. This has me leaning towards the Tundra brake upgrade but I'd need new wheels for it to work as mine are only 15 inchers.

I really like how the new FJ TRD wheels look on a 3rd gen, would the 16 inch wheel of that design work with the upgrade?

The guy at the auto salvage yard said that he's got 16 inch wheels for a tundra, would they work on my Tacoma? He says yes but I'm not so sure.

Hawk HPS with the Tundra brake upgarde. Stop awesome once warmed up but also shed quite a bit of brake dust. I'd use them again.

If you need to buy new rotors and calipers anyway, just get the tundra parts. I just had to buy rotors, but I wished I did the Tundra upgrade. Recently I went wheeling and did a long downhill 4x4 road (20-40 min) now my brakes have a slight pulsation.
