Have to let her go.....

Well, the day has finally come. The family is just too big for my beloved Runner

I am now researching other alternatives (as so many others on here have had to do in the past). Thinking about Sequoia... I know nothing about them at this point. Possibly Yukon XL. At any rate, My baby is for sale. I will put a thread in the "For Sale" section, but in the mean time you can click on my website link and see it. I'm taking my winch off, and my cargo drawers out and my roof rack off. But the lift, tires, winch bumper, sliders, etc will remain the same of course. I'll be asking (am asking now I guess) $9000.00 or close thereabouts.

This isn't really "goodbye" as much as it is "I'll see ya in the Sequoia forums" or something like that.

Do not get a POS Yukon. So you need an 8 passenger? Surprisingly, the Honda Pilot is really great for an 8 passenger "SUV". Check into that. Of course, it's not an off-roader at all (IFS, IRS, unibody), but it does well in light off-road duties. And gets ~23 MPG and has plenty of power. Just a suggestion.

And I'm sure you can get a Sequoia for a great deal right now. Be prepared for a major $$$$ increase in gas spendings.

Also, how many miles on your 4Runner?

Thanks for the suggestion!
Got a few friends who have Yukon XL's and they love them. Less complaints than I am hearing from Sequoia owners at this point... something about the VSC lights and the exhaust headers.

Never even considered a Honda Pilot, but will look into them now... although I dont think I can live without better offroadability you know?

Get a deisel landcruiser, 30 mpg, seats 8, solid front/rear, available lockers, +++++.

I bought a Youkon Denali used when my older 4 Runner was rear ended and I was going around and round with the insurance company. I have really enjoyed the truck.....SHORT OF THE GAS MILLAGE!!

It has also made me realize that the seats in my 89 4R needed serious upgrade.

I don't know about the Sequoia issues, but I have a couple friends with Yukons, too, and it's one thing after another. They are not major issues (except a transmission failure with one), but little things like trim falling off, electronic gremlins, etc. Plus, they average 10-12MPG in the city and 16 on the highway.

You can get the Pilot and build up a cheap 3rd Gen or a Pick Up for the trails. Oh, another plus about the Pilot is that they ride the best out of all of the other vehicles mentioned, IMO (which is also one of the reasons why they don't do as well offroad...)

The one main thing when purchasing a domestic vehicle is the price the insurance company will pay you out if it become's a write-off. I work for an insurance corporation and I know for a fact that domestic stuff isn't worth anything. They drop 35% of the lot value within the first year....when I bought my 2000 SR5 with 130Km/s on it..I could of purchased a 2004 Jimmy ZR2 package...for 2000$ less then what I paid for my 2000 4Runner...which was 4 years older already....with GM closing down major plants in Canada & USA....now is NOT the time to buy somethin made from disgruntled employees who don't care about the quality. In fact..I talked to my friend who sells toyota's at a local dealer...and they just opened up two new plants in the USA close to where the GM plants are...which are closing down, and a lot of ex GM employees have been hired by Toyota.

With gas prices staying at about $4 a gallon and only going up in the long run a Yukon or Sequoia is not what I would buy. The Pilot is a good compromise.

so would you be willing to keep the 4runner if it had 3rd row? why not get a 4th gen 4runner?

Exactly, why get a Yukon?

Your 4Runner is really nice btw, that is the same color combo as my father in laws Runner. I keep trying to convince him that he should let me have it.

Save money..........do the research on your vehicle and buy from a private party.
You may save state sales tax and a greasing from your local lot lizard.
They will kill you on an already heart stopping low resale value runner if you go to trade in .
You may want to keep that runner. Check the current private party value.

I've seen too many friends come back from the lot completely bamboozzled and raked over the coals.
When the fog clears.............you've been greased!

I'd seriously consider the Pilot. Way more room inside than you'd think. Plus good mileage. I was impressed with the two that I've driven; of course that was all road driving; so i can't comment on 4x4 qualities.
