It has begun

Got a 99 4runner Limited and just ordered the SS System 1 (will be here Wed) and installing it mid Nov along with that going to be getting some BFG A/T's (285/75-16's. So far I've pulled the running boards and put in my CB in and a Scanguage II and done the deckplate mod. Future mods are going to include sliders and hopefully if the budget can support it an ARB bullbar and a Yakima load warrior and.

I did the same thing (lift/tires) and realized very quickly that a re-gear was in order. You can research gearing here on YT, but I would suggest that you budget for it sooner than later.

So with essentially 7% more in diameter you needed to regear? Is it that big of a difference in power or gas mileage?

Don't flame I'm still learning, I would imagine it would be needed it I was running 35's but for 32.8-33's...

The lift will also increase resistance, and then when you add the extra weight of a bullbar also, and then the tires on top of all that, it would be really slow but I guess you don't HAVE to re-gear, but it would be wise...

i dont get the statement about resistance. I plane has the same amount of air resistance when on the ground as it does in the air. The air is still flowing the same around the vehicle. I may be just confused, but i am wondering about it.

It will create more drag...causing more air resistance...it will be less aerodynamic...

You aren't really increasing the frontal area of the vehicle by lifting it, so drag in that sense isn't really changing. The increased drag will be all the additional weight of larger tires and other equipment, as well as a wider tire footprint. Rolling weight is equal to 3x that of static weight, so getting those larger tires to speed up and slow down will be a factor.

If 7% is the difference in diameter, so be it. Yes it makes that much of a difference. Like I said I did the same lift/tires and there is no way I could live without regearing. To get back to stock performance/power you will need 4.56's, I went with 4.88's because I tow frequently. You'll see what I mean after you install your tires, then you can decide what is best for you.
