Has anybody done the auto up/down window mod?

I've got a drivers master control module from a '99 4runner with the drivers, and passenger window auto up/down. I'd like to swap it into my '96 but so far it looks like i have to either rewire it, (as the wiring seems to be different)and maybe get a relay? I'll also need the cover plate from a '99 since it'is slightly different than mine.

has anybody done this? what exactly was needed?

thanks-

I think this was discussed a while back, and IIRC the actual motor was different on the auto up/down 4Runners..thus making the entire swap too expensive.

..but thats just me puking out what I remember.

it's not as easy as changing out the switches... the plugs are wired differently and there is a secondary plug that isn't in my '96...

Check out the DEI 530T. It'll do everything you want and it's about $50. I've got one for my rear window and one controlling both front windows. They're all 1 touch up/down and they can easily be tied to the alarm. When I arm my alarm, all my windows go up.

willcipher, how does the 1 touch up/down work on the rear window? Is it only 1 touch, or can you go anywhere in between by pressing the button in the oposite direction while its moving? Can you disable the one touch function, and just have it go up with the arming of the alarm, so I can still have the OEM mechanical one touch? How do you get it to vent?

If you tap it once up it's auto up/down; if you hold it for more than 2 seconds it's manual up/down. If you're trying to move the window an inch, you tap it twice in quick succession; it starts and stops. Yes, you also can put the window anywhere you like by tapping or holding in the opposite direction. I don't believe you can disable the one touch; I didn't try because I like it. You can have it go up with the alarm or not, it's your choice. Venting is easily accomplished by a two touches in the down direction.

The 530T goes in between your factory switch and the motor; it overrides the OEM one touch. I have an OEM one touch auto down driver's switch and it doesn't try to latch because it doesn't see enough current; all current goes through the DEI 530T.

Not at all. It makes the operation much easier. The key just needs to supply a momentary touch to the DEI 530T and the window travels up or down. It's very convenient. The best part is pulling into a parking space with all the windows down, jumping out and hitting the arm button as I'm heading into the store. Immediately, all the windows begin rolling up at the same time. It's a total timesaver and pretty bling too!

I had to use a relay and a couple of diodes to preserve the rear window interlock system on my 88 4Runner though. The installation does require hacking into a good deal of wiring as the unit is placed between the factory window controller and the motor being controlled. Then you need to run additional wiring to enable all of the features.

A lot of after market power window makers sell a universal controller that will make it go down and up, one touch.Universal it fits any thing with power windows. They have been making then since 1992 I know for sure.Yea, Im older than dirt.It works fine and if you want you can hook one up for every window.
