Griot's Bumper & Reconditioning Dye

Griot's Bumper & reconditioning dye.

I have seen this Griot's stuff before in my catalogs, and I ordered a few other things from Griot's the other day, but forgot to add this to it.
I was talking to one of the employee's there about this stuff and asked him if if would work on the rear spoilers above the window back aft, and he said yes.
He's done it to his Dodge Durango.

It also works great on windshield washer blade assemblies.
I was going to pull mine off and paint them, but I might try this on them instead.

Has anyone tired this stuff?
My rear spoiler could really use it, much easier than pulling it off and repainting it.

Bizarre!

On the way to the office today I was thinking "what would be the best way to repaint the rear spoiler." I log on to yotatech and voila! Somebody is thinking the same.

Corey - I also use Groits stuff, but I've never tried the reconditioner. I wonder though, bumpers and trim are usually some kind of petrol product (plastic, rubber, etc.) and the rear spoiler is metal.

Did the guy at Groits say it would work on metal? I was thinking I should just get a can of black automotive duplicolor or something and spray paint it. But now I may wait and see if anyone has tried the Groits.

If you try the Groits, please post your impressions (like you wouldn't

Later,
Graham

Exactly what I was thinking!
My rear spoiler looks like crap and need to do something about it.

Bizarre indeed
I told him it was metal, and I also said I'd probably use my Griot's Paint Prep spray, and he said I was on the right track.

If I get some, I'll be sure to have pics and text, like you know I would 'eh

I'll also be giving my review on their mag wheel polish by Friday afternoon.
I'm sure you saw my post how my wheels got ruined the other day from some Armor All Quick Silver wheel cleaner spray.

I ran out of wheel polish, so I decided to try the expensive stuff from Griot's.
I have never been disappointed yet with any of their products, and I don't mind paying more for something that does the job if it meets my strict anal requirements.

While there is no question that Griots sells good stuff, I have found an alternative product for cleaning up faded black plastic. Believe it or not, Eagle One 'Never Dull' cleaned up some of the extremely faded plastic on my truck including the mirrors and bumper endcaps. If you have some of this stuff already, give it a shot on faded plastic. Other metal "cotton type" polishes might also work, but I wouldn't apply this stuff to black painted metal.

I'd like to know how well this stuff works too. I'm trying to get all of my trim back to the dark side. Is the Griot's a dye/paint like Forever Black or a liquid polish like ArmorAll? As for the spoiler, I just wish I had one. Nobody makes a custom spoiler for the 1st gens; just the one-size-fits-none.

Best thing to do is call up Griot's toll free # on their site.

I thinks it's a permanent dye.
Everything they sell has a money back on it if you don't like it.

My stuff should be here tomorrow in the mail, even though I only live 20 minutes from them.
I just like getting cool stuff in the mail

UPDATE

Don't order the Griot's stuff I posted here about for metal surfaces.
Just talked with Griot's, and it's for porous surfaces such as rubber, and the soft plastic on newer bumpers.

The guy said it will not adhere correctly to it.

Take off the rear spoiler...

So we need to just take off the rear spoiler and paint the puppy? Is that the best solution for fading?

Gosh, they are quick.
Griot's sent out my stuff UPS yesterday, and it's here.
It came while I napped today.

On the rear spoiler, I would think regular paint will scratch up.
If you want it to last, get it powder coated.
That will last.

A few years ago my rear spoiler began to fade and I began to see the silver of the metal beneath the paint. This seems pretty normall w/ our older 2g Runners. Instead of painting it w/ just anything, I decided to try a can of flat black stove paint that I had in the garage. Because this paint is heat resistant, I was guessing it was some tough stuff. 2 coats has lasted me about 4 years w/ good results.

All I did for prep was to run some steel wool over the spoiler and then wipe it clean. I sprayed to 2 generous coats; being careful not to spray so much that it would run.

Good Luck

I spray painted my rear spoiler with a semi gloss and it is holding up very well. The problem with applying a product like that is that it isn't a permanent fix.
