Great tip for 2nd Gen rear windows
So My 3 motor finaly gave up the ghost this weekend.. Well I had a freebie 3rd Gen 4Runner rear window motor that was given to me bacause I thought it looked so close to mine.. Well, I took out my shot motor and noticed it was all backwards. But upon closer inspection, I found that if ou mount the motor upside down (long gear housing pointed down instead of up) the gear lines up, and the bolt pattern is the same!! I do not know about the plug as mine was cutt off long ago due to rust. But the wire colors are the same and the up is still up. I do not know if it is cheaper of not, but you heard it here first! a 3rd Gen motor will replace the 2nd gen in a bolt on swap.. Now, I am very curious if a door window motor is the same. You can buy them from NAPA cheap.. I will take a photo of the new motor in the truck later.. Oh yea.. I can roll it up with out pushing the glass again! (for now)

I am trying to get my rear window motor working again. I got a passenger side motor from another yotatecher. It looks identical, but I needed the mirror immage, a driver side motor. I did plug it in an the wiring harness wirked, the motor worked too. Just how cheep are these NAPA motors Lee?
thanks,
Lamm

What was wrong on yours?? Mine bolted in upside down, it looked really wrong untill you tried it and found that it fit upside down and the holes lined up.. You can get a good idea from here. If you want close ups of my old motor to compare, I can take them for you.
The first photo shows what the 2 motors would look like if you were comparing them
The second photo shows how the original motor (un-installed) is placed in the gate
The third photo is the 3rd gen motor installed. (almost) I will not leave the yellow wire nuts, I was doing this outside, just to get my window up. My Jeep hard top was still hanging in the garage roof and I could not fit my 4Runner in to work on it.

Hmmmmm, maybe when I stop wanting to hang my self "see wisdom teeth thread" I'll go try the flip trick. That darn plastic gear inside the motor of mine stripped. The old motor turns fine, but the stripped gear just spins. Thanks for the tip.
