Great Dome Light replacement!

I just got in a 4-white LED replacement dome light bulb from www.autolumination.com and I must say it is a pretty neat little item. The new bulb generates no heat and the light is a cool blue-tinted glow. No glare and very neat. I highly recommend them!

I tried LED's in all of mine, and found them to be not as bright... They were pretty cool though...

Most of the LEDs are just plain lamps. The Luxeon units have a solid state driver on a small printed circuit board and it is extremely bright. I'll leave a bright spot in your field of view if you stare directly at the lamp. The driver pulses the LED at a high current to create the brightness and controls the duty cycle to keep the LED from melting. And it has a near 180 degree illumination pattern and does not rely on an external reflector (which it pretty poor in the dome light housing). They are a bit expensive, about $35 for the one LED and PCB, but pretty amazing.

i second the LED non-brightness. I bought LEDs for the doors, map light, and 2 domes. The domes were 5w LEDs and were not as bright as stock. They were $25 for one. I then took them out and bought PIAA's Extreme Whites. 2 for 19.99. They were 10w and waaaay brighter than the LEDs. I recommend the PIAAs.

The blues you installed are cool looking and waaaaay better than stock.

Plus you can leave the LED dome light on for as long as you want in camp w/o worrying about killing the battery. Mine pulls about 80 mA (0.080 amps) compared to about 0.8A with the stock dome light. I'm also adding LEDs to the rear cargo area with one or two LED trouble light sticks. They put out about as much light as the flourescent light I used to run in back, but should stand up to the bouncing around off-road better.
