No, not usually, since they are not auto specific.

Your best bet is a specialty hardware store, they usually have the good stuff. Otherwise, a regular hardware store will usually have a limited selection.

Thanks guys, Ace it is as I believe we still have a few of those in St. Louis. Lots of True Values. I didn't really think about it when I was shorted two screws on my T17 and when I slid under there today to check on a noise I noticed that 6/8 had the grade 8 markings and the other two that I must have bought didn't.

If your looking for a bolt that is metric sized, most hardware stores only go up to 13 or 14mm, most hardware stores carry all standard sizes but metric is hard to come by. I know I had to go to Toyota and order a new grade 8 bolt for my tow hook after i stripped one, because no hardware stores carried a 17mm grade 8 bolt.

I didn't think 17mm bolts existed, certainly aren't any on trucks.

That's what my tow hook bolts are, I promise.

At least around here most of the auto stores have a hardware section where they sell metric grade 8 bolts. Not a particularly vast selection mind you.

Lowe's has a nice selection and I imagine Home Depot would too...

For a non standard size or metric I do imagine you would have to find a place that sells bolts to industrial contractors etc...I work at a fab shop on an industry based road and we have an industrial bolt supplier like 2 blocks away who has everything!

I picked up some for my shackle hangers at Lowe's that were 1/2" x 2.5" for a couple bucks.

OEM bolts for the 4Runner aren't too bad at the dealership either. I needed some for my shackle hangers on the front end and they were only like $1.77 each, not too bad, but they had to order them.

Happy Bolt Hunting!

If you know what size they are and are willing to wait, you can order them from McMaster-Carr. They carry very high quality bolts and even high grade stainless if you need em. They have ons of stuff in their catalog (it is like 5" thick....no joke!). Everything from bolts to lifting straps (recovery gear) etc. Definately worth a look.

Im guessing Johnathon was talking about the head size and not the actual bolt size.

Oh yeah Napa sells some grade 8 stuff (if its a larger store). Whether they have any metric or not I dont know.

I too have found it hard to find grade 8 metric hardware locally. If you need a bunch of stuff at once order from here http://www.metricspecialties.com/, I have had positive results with them.

Yes I was talking about the head size, sorry I should have been more specific

This company is great Fastenal . We use them for bolts and other fasteners where I work. They always have what we need. Most of the time it's in stock too. If it isn't they will have it the next day. Great service.

Here's a list of local locations for your City/State.

Local Shops

Thought so. In that case they are 12mm bolts, very easy to find except for JIC's usage of the very-fine 1.25 pitch. For those in Denver, A&A Tradin Post (an Ace store and then some) has a good supply of metric bolts up to 20mm (shank diameter ) in virtually all thread pitches.

re:

If you live near an airport, ask someone that works on the planes. Most bolts on an are "aircraft-grade". T

I have made that mistake also, only realizing it after the salesman from the bolt store brought out a bolt the size of the head i was asking for.

It was HUGE...

bolt size = diameter of the shaft, not the head size
