GPS mount on the cheap

I just made myself a mount for my GPS that will work in both of my trucks.
I used a piece of 1/8" x 1" aluminum flat bar that I had laying around. I used the dremel to cut off and then grind smooth 4 small screws that fit into the little holes (in this particular unit - yours may vary) and bent the flat bar to cradle the unit the way the $60 factory brackets do. Note that the screws do NOT screw into the GPS, after I screwed them through the aluminum I ground them off so they are just pegs.

Then I cut off a plastic travel mug. I cut a wood plug to fit into the top of it and screwed the "mug" to it, then screwed the aluminum bracket to it.

Then I painted the whole thing flat black.

Then I wrapped the "mug" with layers of foam tape (camper tape I had laying around, cut narrower with a razor blade) to make it multiple sized and snug fitting in the cup holders of both my trucks. (Didn't want it bouncing around.) I then wrapped the foam tape with black electrical tape so it would last longer.

It fits snug in the cupholder in the Yota and the F150. I use a 12v cord. Works great. I also have a magnetic external antenna but it works fine without it.

Cost: $0.00 I had everything I needed already. (As long as the GF doesn't go looking for her purple travel mug...)

Had to find some use for that cupholder - it's useless for drinks...

I had gotten a crappy cell phone holder, that slipped in a cup holder. I then got the correct RAM mount for my GPS and an extra ball mount, one is on my four wheeler thei other was bolter to the cup holder mount. Ram mounts work great!
