I'm going to be converting the 4runner to EFI in a couple weeks, i almost have all the parts gathered, but i was wondering if i could use my existing 22r distributor for the swap, it will plug into the harness, wire colors are the same, now for the questions, will the pickup work with the 22re igniter? i assume that a 22re dist. is locked and has no mechanical advance but is controlled by the computer, if i lock my mechanical advance and vacuum advance, would it work? because i dont want to buy a distributor if i dont have to, and if someone has an early 22re (85-whenever they changed it) could you measure the pick up coil resistance in the distributor for me i would really appreciate it, thanks, Joe

it'll only work if you go with an '83-84 celica or 2wd pickup 22RE setup. the other newer 22R distributors are different.

no vac advance.... efi is elictronic advance if i remember right except the celica like kyle said

i know that, but if i lock the vacuum advance from moving, wouldn't that work, i could also lock the mechanical advance also if the 22re's dont use it, then it would be essentially a 22re distributor, right?

i guess if you want but be just as easy to get an efi dist and be done with it plus the plugs might not be the same

ya, but I'm cheap the plugs are the same, already tried that, thanks for the replies, i guess theres only one way to find out, do it
