For Yukon gears with master kits and all that junk front and rear installed, it is $1800. Is that a good deal or no? I'm not gonna let myself get raped on this.

just buy some used toyota gears.....you can pick up already built diffs and save your self about 1300 bucks.... you could get 2 diffs built with e-lockers for way cheaper than that

$1800 sounds really high to me. I have Yukon 4.56's and paid just over $300 for front and rear combined from Randy's Ring and Pinion. They also offer used gears as well. Can't remember any warranty with the used ones though. I don't see any reason to purchase a master kit with bearings. If your bearings are good then re-use them, how often do they go bad?

My opinion, buy the gears (new or used), shim kit and new pinion seals and carry them down to a machine shop if you don't feel comfortable with the install. Or buy used carriers with gears already installed.

Yeah, $1800 total is high for just gears & labor. On average in my area, frt and rr gears only + install runs about $1300.

Why Yukons though...I prefer Precision gears.

Anybody out west got a good spot for used 3rd members? My 3.slo needs help, plus I want 33" tires insted of the 30" I got now. With an auto tranny, should I just go right to 5.29's?

Yukon is what he suggested. It is a local OffRoad store. I've heard good things about them. He said that was probably the best they carried.

At the offroad shop I work at we do alot of gear installs. We sell alot of Different gears also Precision,Yukon,U.S gear to name a few. The reason they howl, humm or break is improper instalation 98% of the time. I would recomend the precision (thats what I run). But we do sell about 5 times more Yukon because of the price.

We charge $200 an axle or diff. for labor so your estimate sounds pretty high. maybe because it is more of a PITA to get the front diff out than a live axle. But in my opinion doing a Toyota 8" is as about as easy as it gets except a full float 60. Kinda balances itself out.

You probably don't need a master kit either.

Yep, seems a little high. I was quoted around $1200 for 5.71s front and rear by Zuk (http://www.gearinstalls.com). That price was if I supplied him with a non-4.88 rear diff and housing and shipped everything to him.

How can I know if I need the master kit before jumping into the project?
