I picked up a very clean factory hitch for my 96 4Runner the other day and now I need some bolts to mount it up. I removed the factory tow hooks off the back and I see that I have to us them but I was wondering where and how to get the other bolts. The spots where the tow hooks were are threaded but the other holes are not.

There is a metal strip that gets inserted into the rear of the frame that has threads for the other two fastener locations.

That sounds like it will work......Anyone know where I may find somthing like this?

i'm eventually going to try and find another OEM hitch for mine (previous one disintegrated with rust), and i was going to price these out at the dealer which will probably be WAY expensive, or just buy some flat iron at home depot and slide them in the frame, mark where the holes go, drill them out, and have a local welder weld some nuts on it for me. then, coat with some spray paint or POR, etc, and install. give that a try. i just had a local guy weld my 1st gen roll bar for $20, i'm sure mig welding some nuts to a piece of metal wouldn't be much more.

You can get the bolts at Toyota for a buck and change each. The "nuts on a stick" are not being made anymore (or so I've been told) so you'll have to source them from a western junkyard (they rust) or make em yourself. I found one here in the classifieds.

I have been able to get a long 19mm box end wrench all the way up to the forward most bolt hole with the nut in it. It isn't easy, but is possible. Be sure to have a magnet on a stick in case the wrench/nut get away from you.
