is this a good price fora 3.4?
Howdy y'all.
I live in San Diego, and made an hour visit today at the junkyards. I saw 5 3.4 engines. Some form 4runners, and tacomas. They ranged from 97' -98', and one '02.
The 02' looked new. The 4runner had its' backside slammed, the engine was untouched. The guy quoted me $1400 for everything on it, which it had, eith a core deposit of my 3.0. Is this normal for junkyards? I was pretty jazzed about the price, until the core deposit. I have brand new heads for the 3.0, and want to try to make the money back that I spent on those. Any info?

Depends on mileage, what core value is and what "all inclusive" covers.
If it is an 02 with less than 25k or so, core is $500 plus or minus and "all inclusive" means ECU, wiring, assorted charcoal canisters, etc, then I would say that is nothing short of impressive.
If it is an 02, that means it was an auto. That was also during the run of goofy TRAC stuff on the t-cases. If you have a stick, then it may be a no go. If you have an auto, then you ought to ask for a quote on the tranny too.

I havn't messed around with my diffs, or axles much, but is it possible to swap the axles from the front diff to the other side? Has it been figured out how to make this combo work?
