Good alternative to a gerri can

Check out this set-up.. Now they are small, about 1 1/2 gallons each (5 liter cans) But you get 3 gallons of gas in a 1 foot high package.. $19.95 Now you also get a split container to hold what ever and a lower container.. Now here is the catch, say you have gas in them and have to dump fluid on the trail.. (by choice or not)
Say you got your auto tranny filled with water and need to dump to get it home break out you trays, drain the gas into your truck, drain oil into pans, dump into gas containers.. This set up is multi purpose! I just bought a set.. $31.11 shipped I am going to see if I can recess it thru my rack close to the roof and it may only stick up a couple inches.

Here is the site, look under "shop" in the catalouge

Another mod?

Geez - somebody hide this guy's wallet.

Looks pretty sweet. Will the cans be getting painted to match your rig?

You are kidding buddy!! With this kind of stuff it always seems like when you go back to buy it they are gone... I will be painting the cans red (have to to carry gas) and I have not decided on the trays.. probably balck to kinda hide away up there...

Trust me, I have to cut back a bit.. I am just getting her all back in wheeling order.. As for the gas cans.. My truck likes to suck gas down after half a tank, and I have come reall close a few times to running out!! When towing my camper those gas stations some times can be quite far off....

I have the same problem. After the needle hits the half way point, it drops faster than a dress on prom night. I always thought mine was defective and learned to live with it.

Lee, it's a great idea to carry extra gas with these great gas guzzling 3.0s.

I have a 10 liter official jerry can from Generator Joe.

You can run these on their sides, or upside down, they won't leak.
I just took mine off about a week and a half ago, and it had been up there since our November run I went on.

That's a good idea to paint the base holder black.
I might paint mine too, as the red does kind of stick out when the can is not up on the roof.

I wish they made the blue water one in the 10 liter size, but Joe says he can't get them here, only the bigger 20 liter one.
I can get a green water one from overseas, and I might get one and mount it on the other side the same way.

Even if they were made for gasoline they have to be red? Black, silver or other colors aren't OK?

Cebby, thank your local Fire Marshal. Actually, I dont know about other states, but there is a fine in MI for putting gas in "containers other than those specified as acceptable blah, blah, blah....." Not sure what the fine is, but I know you dont want it.

I'm assuming these gerry cans have a stamp or are embossed with something that says "for gasoline only", right? It that is still legible, what's the diff on the color? Fire marshall thing, eh? Is that why kerosene containers are blue? I thought I'd seen yellow gasoline gerry cans before...

red is gas, blue is kerosene, diesel is yellow, and I think for some reason water is either blue or green..

I guess this could say "gas" Don't really know?? Anyone?

California sucks. Way too many stupid people here. I was going to get one of those jerry cans from gen joes, but they're not legal in CA. So now I have to get one of the junk gas cans that leak and pollute the air and ground. Probably will explode in an accident too.

That sucks Steve.

So it's OK for you to carry a plastic type one for wheeling, but the CHP will ticket you if you have the good kind like mine?

They are laxed up here on this stuff.
I run both sets of my lights with clear covers on them, no front license plate although I am suppose to, and I had the can on the roof for months.

Lee, I just read this on the site where I got my can from.

Embossed "10L" and "DOT3A2". Available in RED. We are trying to obtain Khaki, Black and other colors. Virtually any custom color (including matt finishes), special labels and impressions are available on large orders.

SORRY DUE TO CALIFORNIA REGULATIONS WE CANNOT SELL THIS PRODUCT FOR USE IN CALIFORNIA
That is very weird they won't allow them, they are really safe from reading up on them on the site.

I don't know why they're illegal. Gen Joes website says in big red letters, "SORRY DUE TO CALIFORNIA REGULATIONS WE CANNOT SELL THIS PRODUCT FOR USE IN CALIFORNIA"

I doubt the cops here know that it's illegal so I'll probably end up getting one anyways from some "source".

They could still be legal over there..

For California use only:

Straight from the mouth of the CA Air Resources Board :

It would seem its illegal to sell these cans... not to own one! Wait... I didn't say that.
